Wanted to know if anybody has any idea what's going on with my Elegance coral?

I had it for Three weeks now and been doing fine up until last Sunday. Noticed it's been swelling up during morning through afternoon hours. Receding late afternoon through night with stringy mucus.

I have under T5's on sand bed with low flow. My water parameters are up to par. I haven't changed or added new to my tank.

I would hate to lose it such and beautiful coral. BTW sold to me as a Aussie. So, I thought survival rate would be better. Now I doubt it was Aussie.

Here's some pics:

Sorry to hear but seems to be the trend with Elegance corals. Aussie's do have better survival rate but I guess it's still not guaranteed. I'd try moving it around some to dif light or flow to see if anything changes.

Phosphates are usually the biggest enemy of that coral. The others are salinity and temp swings.

Those tend to last around a year don't know why it's crapping out on ya. They are loaner corals though.

My buddy never really fed them
And had them in around 165 par and could keep them happy for months. He used natural salt water.

Pimp him some of your wicked feast and see if his elegance bounces back. Then you can put cool words on the bag and start marketing it like crazy,... "the food that brings your corals back to health"

If I had to guess..If it is eating you are better off than most. I would cut back on the feeding. The tissue from what i can see doesn't look like it was picked on. It just may need to expel all of the food. Elegance can not tolerate tissue damage. that can be caused by fish, crabs, or handling. If you ever get to fish collection, talk to Jimmy. He keeps some nice Elegance. He even frags them and has them live. Don't ask me how, but he does

I'll cut back on the feeding and let expel out whatever it needs too.

No fish or crabs has been picking at it. It is secreting a lot of mucus and the brown jelly stuff from the tips.

When my Elegance coral bit the dust, i never knew why, but I kept the skeleton, and after it was fully dry, I noticed a pouch in it, i opened it and ther was some kind bug living in it. I'm guessing that this was the problem.

I would dip it

No, but it's not the swelling you should be worried about it's the mucus, that means theres a disease, a good cleansing is what it might need. a bath never hurt anyone, just be careful not to rip the flesh off, if this happens then your pretty much done anyways, that would mean that the mucus is already eating the flesh.

That's actually false. But it probably would be easier on the animal if he would have fine pured or chopped it and only fed a couple crumbs.
Agreed, miced/pureed is best if that's what you're doing. Takes certain corals time to take in new food let alone large chunks of it. Some need to be conditioned for it. I.e. I've had Anemones that I gradually feed them larger chunks over time til they finally ate full shrimps/larger pieces of squid without spitting them out half-digested.

Its simple, I've watched it all the time. You cut, then iodine dip and bathe in a mixture of steroids. True story...

jk....
