Came home to the boy forgetting to turn on the lights on his tank. timer burnt out and waiting to get now one. Anyways, hit the switch and wait for Halide to turn on... as it is getting brighter, I notice his purple dottyback is dead... Great, oh well... then the light kicks on fully and I see it... Pair of beautiful Clarkii clowns, dead. Purple Fire fish, dead. diamond goby, dead. And Lawnmower Benny, BARELY alive. I did a water change the night before. checked levels, they good. Got a new Long tentacle nem, it was/is alive and fine, so no like poison leak, But I did notice, I have a HUGE mushroom, was somehow ripped off the rock, did poison from that somehow contaminate the water? I saved the corals and dipped them in a few mixtures and put them in my display.. and Lawnmower is doing ok in main tank... But that sucks, the boy bought the fish with his own money and he's only 9 so I feel bad. but that's the nature of the game... Needless to say, his 24G nano will be up for sale, in excellent condition, but 2 tanks with my hours is way too hard..

Ouch bro that sucks hard. Hopefully it's not the water because you probably use the same on your tank right?

My Tank Build

U have a bigger problem then no lights. No lights for a week wouldn't kill the fish if everything else was good. I would check for stray electricity or oxygenation. Even what temp is the tank?

same water in display. display doing great. light was only off for a day, I know that's not it... this is a great quality tank so no issues with shortages wiring wise. Corals are fine, the one fish was fine. nem still alive. just 4 other fish were dead. You dont think the ripping of the base of a huge mushroom in a small tank released something? I have ripped one of those before and a bunch of black slimy fog hit the water...

For most fish to die it sound like the water needed more oxygen.

My buddy brought over some fish in a ziplock and the bag looked like a car in December doing a "soup kitchen." http://youtu.be/zUjPABbaACk

Any who both died from the stress of having like 0 oxygen and being in a ziplock.

My guess is the water was not agitated enough to have oxygen exchange and things tht got stressed croaked.

Did you possibly lose power for a while where the return wasn't working? I'm with Wicked. Sounds like you had a lack of oxygen in the tank. Corals will do fine but fish won't.

Is the nem you got a tube nem. I had the same problem when I got my nem. All my fish got to close to it and they all got stung and died. I'm almost sure it was my nem cause the only fish that survived was my watchman goby who hides underground...
