GFO and Stags

CORRECTION:

This morning I noticed my Green Bali Slimmer's tissue is melting from the bottom up, I recently started running GFO even though my Phosphates where really low. Could GFO be doing this?
I'm stumped because all my other corals are thriving.

yes,some gfo can cause alk issues
switch to a resin base like brightwell

Yes it could be the GFO. What type of gfo is it? Some gfo will lower your alk and that could be tha cause.

I'm going to check the Alk today. Im using Reef Pure PhosaR-HC

Maybe I need to lower the flow rate or completely stop using it.

Yea I believe your alk dipped because of the granule ferric oxide.

When adding anything new to the tank, you should always add it slowly.

Could have either caused a alk swing or stripped the water of phosphates too fast.

Happened to me some years ago--green slimer rtn'ed after stupidly using blue life phosphate remover. Killed my tang too. I used 1/3 or recommended dose too. It dropped the alk dramatically; other sps suffered but survived.

happaman- yes, same similar experience with the blue life phosphate remover.
i suspect they,and a few other companies, use a modified product used on swimming pools that irritates corals and gills on fish

man thats alarming maybe I will have to rethink adding the gfo as reccomended and go small first I just use it in a bag were it gets tumbled by light flow

gfo especially the HC has a direct influence on your alk. I would cut the GFO in half
