Going Skimmerless with only turf algae scrubber System

I don't have room in the back of my nano for a skimmer(I have never had luck with the really small skimmer anyways)so I saw a product called the hog upflow scrubber and it looks like it will fit in my tank no problem. Has anyone seen or used this?

Santa Monica also designed a UAS up algae scrubber? It requires a much small screen and an air stone. I used one with a lot of success and built it for only 10$.

im thinking of building something similar but on a larger scale.
1. i like the idea of space saving by attaching it to a wall.
2. not having light spilled everywhere.
3. using LEDs to save money
4. I already have a bunch of red leds, and a driver.
5. The upflow seems a lot quieter than a standard one.
6. I have a lot of black acrylic that i can cut to make a box for this rather than a tv tray.

I tried skimmerless for a while but was getting some nasty algae on my back wall, just put my skimmer back on the other day hoping itll do the trick.
