So my tang use to eat like there was no tomorrow and all of a sudden he won't eat anything! I dipped he's food in garlic and nothing and he won't even nip his seaweed anymore. To make matters worst my gf spotted like a lump on his belly making it look like a tumor not sure. He also now swims weird bobbing his head down

Sorry to hear, it Sounds bad. He's not eating because he's stressed out. Not sure what the belly bump is. You got a pic?

Any coral that can sting him or other fish that have venom in their spines? Like rabbit fish in the tank? Just leave him be and he should pull through.

Wow Wicked, so optimistic!
I'm sorry but I agree with Steve. Sounds real bad. Maybe internal parasites of some kind are causing the bump. IME, once a fish starts having swim bladder problems, it's unlikely to recover. That and the fact that it's not even interested in food anymore, there is little hope. Al might have more info or better advice for you. Bob Fenner in www.wetwebmedia.com is extremely knowledgeable on this subject and is very helpful. You can actually send the wwm crew an email and they respond with answers amazingly fast! Good luck and sorry your fish are sick :(

So they replied and said that it could be worms and a huge water change is needed and to treat em in anthelminthic although I have no idea what that is. I did the huge water change

Anthelmitics are just drugs that cause the parasites to exit the body. I hope you can get your hands on some and get him treated in time to save him. Keep us updated and good luck!

Took me a while to look in on this thread, you should have PM'd me.

Anthelminthic
Ant=anti, helminth=worm

A distended belly can be an internal infection or a cestode/worm infection. Luckily many are species specific. The vast majority of wild fish have these and in the wild its not a problem since the shed eggs don't usually reinfect the same fish. But in the aquarium they get reinfected and it can get bad. They usually have complex life cycles with secondary and tertiary hosts. Lucky you...

To cover your bases catch the fish and put it in a QT tank, dose it with an antibiotic AND anthelminthic. Metronidazole and praziquantel are pretty easy to find. I know API makes a product called "General Cure" which is pretty user friendly. Hope this helps.

Oh yeah there is no such thing as a swim bladder, its a GAS BLADDER. One of my pet peeves...take this as another reason to quarantine all new fish.

not worms I wouldn't recommend using it in the reef where metronidazole is reef safe I would also look at the ingredient listing of the food your are feeding the fish a lot of time the get clogged up like ppl do because of the fillers and staple put in food good luck and if you have any question let me know

You should be fine putting it in your tank. I have done it before with no issue to inverts, but it pissed of a frogspawn coral.

Mike's dosed Prazi to his display as well without killing anything. I've used it in a quarantine for flukes or a worm of some kind and it was gone in a day.

Ditto Ive had no issue dosing prazi in my dt's. if I'm not mistaken you can soak food in prazi as well to make the food medicated.
