Hello Socalireef,

My name is Raymond. This is my first time posting. I'll be getting my new fish tank in approximately a month, tank dimensions are 96x36x24. It will have a center trapezoid overflow. I have a refugium from my old 240g tank. I don't have any lights at the moment, was using some Chinese led lights. I'd like to use the AI Vegas. My question is how many would I need to start off with? My plans are to have a full blown SPS tank. Also I have one MP60 and two MP40's. Will that be enough flow inside the tank? If not will another MP60 be enough? Thanks for your responses in advance.

The Vega is designed to cover a 24 by 24 inch area. so in other words you would need 4, but if your going all out i would go with 5 just to have better par all over the tank, and at the same time you wont have to worry about any spot not getting enough light. With one mp60 and two mp 40 youll be fine. just place the 60 on one side and the mp40 together on the other side.

I can't say about the Vegas but my tank is 84x30x24 and I just got my 6th AI sol unit and just need to mount it. Not sure if the Vegas cover more area. As far as the flow I have 1 60 and 1 40 and have good flow but I also have a reeflo super dart gold return pump that pushes a lot of water. I would think if you did a 60 on each side and the 40s on the back wall you would be real good. Your tank is gonna be real nice

really?? even if he had both of the mp40 on high?
Yes two mp40's is for a 4' tank. The mp60 all though string can't be cranked up or they reek havoc. You might wanna integrate a few more pumps towards the back. I would think 3 or 4 mp 40's and the mp60 would be good. And or 2 mp60's and 2 or 3 mp40's it all depends on how much rock you have and where you place it.

Thanks guys for all your prompt responses😄. I was thinking one more MP60 as well. I have an Iwaki pump that was in my fuge, or a Turbo Sea that I was using for my CLS, so I can go with either one. Will the AI Vegas cover the 36" depth of the tank? Will I need to mount two front to back?

I would tap that center overflow at least 6-8 times that way you can add a large return and keep wires to a minimum outside. Is This is a peninsula? I like some of the builds I've seen on builds where they tap the center overflow more and in various spots and add a (my mind just froze....it basically can recreate different ocean motions after your return.) Someone help me

No it's a peninsula, would've loved to have that style, unfortunately there isn't a spot for that type of tank. I'm kind of confused to what you mean by tapping overflow???

He means drill the overflow box so you can have plenty of returns coming g through it and in different positions so you can create random flow in your tank. Buy running a big return pump and getting flow from that instead of running more power heads.

Ok, thanks for the clarification Pgr11. I asked Leemar to drill two holes on the corners of the eurobracing in case I decide to add sea swirls in the future. I'd like to keep the amount of returns to the minimal, and use the vortechs for water flow instead, so maybe adding one more MP60 would be optimal. On my previous tank I had the MP60 on one side and both MP40's on the opposite side. What kind of sand do you guys recommend as far as microns go?
