I live in Yucca Valley, the Hi-Desert of California.

I have MTS. I can't stop setting up tanks. I like mixed reefs. I need help. Lots of help.

I love DIY projects around this hobby. figuring out how to make these small environment run better.

I would love to meet fellow reefers in the area.

If you are interested in some of my tanks I would love to show them to you. I do have an in-tank camera and live stream on YouTube on one of the newer setups.

I just got my Lyretail Anthias out of QT into my 112. I have a black tang, a powder brown, powder blue, 2 purple, a gem tang, a sail fin tang, a tomini tang, a blue eye kole tang, a school of green chromis and a few pajama cardnials. Then I have a couple of tanks of inverts with snails, hermits, feather dusters, emerald crabs and others. Lastly I have a couple of coral QT tanks that have new coral for the DT tanks.

Hi Erick

One of my latest DIT is a testing and dosing station for my main systems consisting of two 10 gallon tanks. It runs off the main return from the sump. The first tank is the testing tank where all the probes for the Apex and feed for the Trident are. The second tank is where all the dosing and mixing happen.

This also has the backup salinity probe. I actually manage salinity by the Apex, not by water level.

I also just completed continual auto water changes for 3 of my systems. Every hour, 24 hours per day, I have a Jebao DP-4's that replace a total of ~10% of the water in the 3 systems per week. Each is programed for a different amount per hour from 100ml to 300ml per hour.

I’m about to have a serious lighting relapse this weekend with my 6 foot metal halide/LED project. I need to call my sponsor …. Oh, wait I don’t have a R.A. sponsor :(

Welcome. Heads. Up, those. Pumps are not really for an auto water change system. You need a peristaltic/continuous duty pump for that. Keep an eye them if you continue to use them for that feature

Yes, but they are cheep and easy to maintain. For $55 each I can buy several of these instead of peristaltic/continuous pumps. These run only once an hour for a very short time. We will see over the long haul how they perform, but so far they are working great.

So the purpose of these 2 tank are for probe reading and mixing elements?
Then what do you do in the sump. The purpose of a sump is to hide equipment so that it doesn’t take away from the beauty of the tank.
But when you said DIY I was thinking a little more constructive. To me it just seems like you love tinkering and messing with projects.
I’m the same way too, to an extent
But here are a few DIYs I’ve done and these are only scratching the surface.

I agree with Jose, and I definitely wouldn’t use a dosing pump as a peristaltic pump. They are know to be very inaccurate specially the jebaos. Plus what if one of the motors goes out and it causes the salinity of the tank to go up/down.
Yes I can already hear you say “but I have a salinity probe.”
Do me a favor and go to Neptune’s web site and search salinity probe. Just see for your self how many compliments there are about that certain probe. A tiny air bubble can cause those probes to give false reading. That’s definitely not a probe I would put my faith in. Just sayin!
So I two am in the process of adding an AWC setup to my system and found a killer deal on eBay for a peristaltic pump.
I bought a refurbished 4 channel peristaltic pump for $60 buck. It was priced at $100 and I fallowed the listing for a few weeks and seen it kept getting re-listed. I seen that the poster had put excepting offers so I offered $60. With in minutes I got a replay saying excepted.

The motor was replaced I even opened the unit up and verifying that the motor was new.
Here’s the pump

I know it doesn’t look so hot but I might repaint and polish if up. But the unit was well oiled and runs flawlessly

Looks like you got a great deal! You've got some fantastic DIY project going! I may steal some of your ideas, if that's OK?
