I have to fill up my 100 gallon and i know getting 100 gallons of saltwater can be very pricey, so Im going to make the saltwater myself. Any words of advice on where to buy RO water, or the seasalt? Any general tips/advice I should know before going this route?
Thanks guys

do NOT use red sea coral pro salt for the starting batch, or else your parameters will be VERY high. it's ok for water change water though.

I would suggest getting your own RODI unit if possible. That way you always know your getting good H2O. I use D&D salt but everyone has their own preference. Make sure you mix it well.

You change out most of the water after the cycle. So use something cheap I'd say. Some people use others water from water change.
I've never heard that before I would say that is not necessary.

Most of the bacteria lives in the rocks and surfaces so using someones water change water, although may not hurt anything, is not necessary either.

Why would you do a massive WC if the water is now good after the "Cycle".

I myself used dry sand and dry rock and a bottle of Dr Tims one and only and my cycle was a day max. I then moved all my SPS coral over the next day and the only causalities were then ones i was to tired to mount and the sand smothered them lol

Get instant ocean salt. It's cheap and parameters are ideal as a baseline. Easy to procure. Chance of coral isn't too far from u and their rodi water is cheap and clean. +1 in buying an rodi unit. The ro buddy from aquaticlife is cheap.

+1 on Dr Tim's. I used cured live rock and Dr Tim's one and only and added fish the next day. The reason people remove the water after a cycle is because often they don't use completely cured live rock or the rock leaks out a lot of nasties in the water so the water change removes all of that.

if using Dr. Tims check the expire date. i picked up a bottle from Jans and forgot to check the use by date. lets just say i had to pick up a bottle of microbacter 7 not too long after.

i always have used the cheapest salt when starting off a tank. no need for anything fancy in my opinion.
