Just curious. I figured with the larger tank, and it being in the garage my electric bill would rise. But I'm constantly breaking $400 a month! Probably a little over 200g system.

I'm thinking of replacing my return, mag 24 for something more effecient, adding stronger fans to the tank and maybe even killing the t5s to see if that helps.

Come winter my chiller won't be running, but the **** heaters will!

The wife is complaining.....I told her we can always move the tank back inside :a21:

So what's your e bill running you a month? If you've found tricks with your tank that helps cut it down, let's hear it.

$500-$600. What I did to save a few bucks was to have the lights come on later on in the evening. I have a 360g tank

Wow mag 24? You can get a pump with more gph and save over 100 watts easy. For something that runs all the time that is pretty significant.

Best thing I did was drop the mag pump and pan world pump. I now run a tunze and Reef Octo dc pumps and it's made a huge difference- like 300 watts. I'm thinking switching to LED and will probably buy the new LED bulbs for my t5's depending on the PAR they kick out.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind the reduction in noise as well. I wouldn't even consider it "white" noise. More like a low volt drill constantly running, even if I lift it off the bottom. Crazy loud.

My reef tank is only 24 gallons, so I don't know how much e bill it would cost. However, I have a discus set up that I let the lights (10k) run 12 hours per day with 2 300 watts heaters to keep the temp stable at 84. My monthly electric bill for the whole house is around $150, so my tanks would take around $50 per month. I only turn on the light for reef tank in the evening from 5PM until 1AM. During the day, only the small fan runs to cool down. I think good trick is letting the lights on in the evening since it is cooler, but it depends on your daily schedule, Matt.

When I set up my tank my bill only went up $40-$50 I think. It's a 120gl, 50gl sump, 1/4hp chiller, aquamaxx skimmer that runs a sicce 3.0 pump, sicce 1300gph return pump, and all led lighting. I leave the air off during the day when I am not home so the chiller runs quite often.

HVAC is probably close to half of many peoples electric bills, especially in the summer months.

I have a similar setup, without a chiller. I would guess that is what my system costs me per month.

I run a 180g and a 55g and I just got my most current bill, it was $157 and that's for two months. That was while running a chiller on the 55g and running 2 ac units (living room and bedroom) all summer. It does pay off to set up your system(s) with the most energy efficient equipment.

42g, 30g sump, led's, tiny return pump, tiny skimmer, 500W heater, no fans, a rw4 pump... i think it went up 20 bucks... maybe less... but i cut down on a lot of stuff the last year or so...

i wish i had a tank the size of pgr11's mom... but i don't ave enough land for that...
