August bill $1275, but average about $900. That is for 2 systems at about 750 gallons. My business uses a 1/3rd more power and pays a 3rd less. They stick it to the homeowner in California!

I wonder how you guys know exactly how much your system cost in term of electricity because it still depend on how much your household use for your AC, TVs, fridge and other things right? If you have the AC blasting all the time then it would cost $400-500 even w/o tank.
I have a 180 and a 30 gal with 6x80w T5 and 4 Kessil, and 1 HP chiller and I'm guessing the system cost about $180-200 a month.

I love summer and the chillers running, its way cheaper than the heaters running. My bill is only about $520 in the summer and warmer months but well over $1100 in the winter months

OUCH! This is what I was afraid of! It'll be interesting to see the difference in the winter for me.

I think most of my bill is the central air. My mom watches my daughter during the day. Needless to say shes horrible with electronics, I'll come home and the fans set to on instead of auto and the desired temp is set to 48F. Theres no quick way to get to that number, it means she hit the button about 30x. Crazy. I told her not to touch the ac, and she didn't last month, that's why I was surprised to see the be go even higher and it made me wonder what my tanks drawing.

Everything but the heaters on right now and I'm drawing exactly 10 amps according to apex. That's probably a good 6 hours a day. Now I gotta figure out how break down what that costs a day.

May be worthwhile longer term to insulate the garage where you keep the tank.

I forgot to add to my original post. My house was ru ning 90-100 before tank. With tank 125-135. Then summer hit. With chiller and random AC I've been 200, 220, and 250 this month. I rarely run the AC. Only when its over 90, humid, and I'm home aLl day.

So maybe you're 300-400 becuse its summer and AC? I put 4 pc fNs on my tank and I swear my chiller never turns on anymore. It use to turn on on days that it's only 85 outside. With fans 90 degree outside no problem. Chiller stays off. But remember summer bill goes up. I was well into 4th tier. So I was paying g about 25 cents a killowatt or whatever. Or for better comparison on the bill. Before tank I was using 450kwh a month. Last 3 months 800 kwh+

If I owned the house I would definetley take the time to insulate but I'm renting.

I added fairly strong fans today, I'm going to add one tone refugium as well. Hopefully that knocks it way down.

Solar indeed but we bought the panels outright :)

Nice. Saw news clip on Yahoo news the other day about a Fontana home builder installing panels with a SunEdison battery plus a H2O heat pump on his new homes. Net zero homes with battery for emergency backup. Perfect for reefers, lol.
