What was it that got you addicted to reefing? what was your first tank and how crazy did you go after that?

i bought a used clear for life 29 gal acrylic tank with no oflow. Didn't do research and threw rocks from my garden and playground sand into it. Oh and I bought salt mix from Pet Smrt and mixed it with tap water straight into the tank. For a filter I used a POS ViaAqua hang on filter w/ skimmer. Finally a desk lamp to light up the tank. No livestock though as somehow I knew that I had to "cycle" a tank. Luckily I was connected to someone that had a 400 gal reef tank and schooled me on this. So I got live sand and bought left over live rock from him. Made the changes and from there started learning about lighting filtration, water chemistry and livestock. Within 1 year I went from a 29 gal POS to a 40 gal acrylic with canister filter and aquaC Remora, with Viper 150 MH and finally to my lee mar 3x2 with sump, fuge, and AI lights. Rational people would've said money wasted but I say money well spent. Was a fun growing process.

I bought a tank about 25 years ago, it was a fish only with an undergravel filter. Most of my fish lived for years, some were still alive when I sold it 5 years later, to all the butterflies and angels I killed I am truly sorry. Started up again about 2 years ago with a small 10 pico on my desk at work that 3 months later was added to with a 30 that became the 95 6 months later that is now 3 tanks and thousands of dollars later. I should have bought a boat.

I just joined the reefing hobby Oct 2012. I already been threw 3 tanks and I am in the process of cycling my bad boy Cube. 6g nano first, 40g AIO kids poured all these chemicals into, 75g broke down after two months got a better job and moved out with my fiance and my daughter (she is now 1month old), lastly my current 67.7gallon cube which is in the process of cycling. I love the hobby because the wife doesn't mind all my spending. She is letting me add a 20g frag tank to my cube (which will be plumbed into tank as soon as Chance empties his ugly corals from it :) ) Actually teaching the wife how to frag so while I am at work she can frag for me (frag millionaire here :D). Hey all my mistakes I justify with the saying "We live and learn."

My wife kids and me were at a fair last October, when someone came to us and gave my kids a goldfish. I didn't want it, but my kids were excited. So we went to petco and bought everything needed to keep a tank for them. My wife and I were happy cause they were so excited.

Last December we were at my aunties house for an Xmas party. They saw her reef tank and loved it...but I didn't want to get into it cause I was worried about cost, maintenance, etc. well a few weeks later my friend sold me his 60 gallon tank with stand, skimmer and canister for $300.

I restarted everything, learned the basics, found this forum and soon upgraded to a 120 gallon.

Had betas & fresh water tanks honestly since I can remeber.
My dad did saltwater when I was about 12 yrs old till currently.
I was @ a job & offered 6 gal nano.
I took it & soon sold fresh water setups.
Then met my next tank (24 gal nano) on another job with livestock.
Ran both nanos until I moved customer who I bought my 90 gal from.
Currently running the 90 gal
With next upgrade ( 150 gal ) sitting next to it. & already wanna go bigger!
Upgrading equipment every step up
(The expensive route)
Addict 4 life!

Always had tanks and got into planted tanks. Trying something new, reef was a good expansion of the hobby.

parents had a 6' fresh water when i was born till i was 10. i had a 50 gallon freshwater from 15-25. recently married felt like setting up my tank again in our condo, wife decided freshwater fish are ugly and i have to do saltwater because they are pretty. Since i have always wanted to do saltwater just never had the guts to switch it was an easy choice. now i'm hooked
