I ask this because I just bought a pair of clowns and one died in less than 24hrs. I dont blame the store I bought it from because I didnt notice anything obviously wrong with it at the store. I dripped it for 2 hours in a plastic container so that the water was triple the amount than what they were tranported in the bag. I noticed when in the container that one was breathing fast. I thought it would calm down when it got into the tank but it didn't. The next day it had a whitish plaque on one side, it was still breathing fast, swimming a little odd,, and its mouth was pale colored. I tried feeding it but it wouldnt eat. I did an 8min freshwater dip on it but it as no use, dead about 10min after dip. The other one is eating like a pig and looks great. So did I acclimate for too long? Or was it just a week fish that couldn't handle the transfer?

Float for 20-30 minutes and in the tank it goes. Most fish crap in the bag and I like to get them out asap just get the temp stable. But everyone have their own ways this way works for me.

Fish was probably already stressed when u took it, u probably didn't notice. For it to die that fast I don't think it was ur acclimation. I usually acclimate by adding 1/2cup of water every 20min for an hour. Then it's good luck buddy n in it goes

i drip em til salinity is close enough. usually about 30-45 min. sounds like you freshwater dipped em too long as well as the fish being stressed from the store.

I buy "used" fish! Temp acclimate and then poof in the tank after 15 minutes. Rather pay a bit more but hassle free! Actually, thanks to SCR, used fish cost less than "new" here most of the time

Yeah I think next time I will drip acclimate for an hour instead next time. Maybe even a freshwater dip before putting them in.

I think the purpose is to kill all the salt water parasites. However if u dip the fish until the tough parasites are killed, the fish is pretty much gone way before that. Imo, We don't dip fresh water to kill parasites but more like to test the fish...... "if this does not kill you, you will make it in my tank". I'm against fresh water dip but it's your fish, do what ever you want :)

I do about an hour as we'll. don't mean to high jack thread but fresh water dip ? What's the purpose in that and for how long ?
