I have to say that the topics and the content is waaaaaay better than 3 years ago.

The site has grown leaps and bounds. Just compare it to the other forums local section.

What do you guys think?

I think you're welcome. Lol.

Seriously I think that for all the drama queens we have around here we really do have meaningful discussions. As an outsider looking in I would see 99% of our stupid nonsensical posts and think "These guys are jokers." But then we have the 1% of posts that make up for it in an intellectual way. As for other big forums with SoCal local sub forums I don't really care for them. This is truly a local forum with locals who know each other.

OK I'm rambling now. I'll shut up.

I can't say, because I have only been around for about 1 year. I can say I find this forum very helpful, and fun to participate with. This forum has a lot of good people and knowledgeable reefers !

Nothing draws me more in this forum than the drama! J/K In a serious note, it has gotten worst and better. We should redraw the line when it comes to posts, ie, having 50 meaningful posts before you can sell anything or ask for freebies! That's just opinion though! Don't wanna start any drama! lol :)

I remember when I first joined (2007), there used to be so much bickering - I cant remember his name, but would always start "I know more than you" type stuff in the chat room and threads, actually made me stop visiting for sometime, as far as I can tell he is no longer here =P

The forum has improved greatly, although it can be hard to sift through all the post whores ramblings in certain threads to find the info you need, but still love it!

Definitely am guilty of replying to a lot of crap. I'm not gonna say I don't like a Lil drama with my morning coffee though.

I think in the broad sense what brought about this thread is if you sift through thread titles here, people are actually getting good info and help.

Go through some of the asking for help threads in the big forum and people either get 0, or get a pompous prickly pear responding.

We may have a weird sense of getting along here but I know if a guy in BFE needs help someone here will help said guy. Unless he asks for free stuff then we pull out the Zombie killing tools.

Lots of guys here willing to lend out a hand on moves, plumbing, testing, controller help, lending things, trading things etc..... We have swag and we help, not bad!

I love it here obviously. Thanks Wicked that's about the time I joined... makes sense.

Omar what's cool about those old school cat's your mentioning is they are still active club members and I love talking with them and sharing ideas. Good stuff.

I can't speak about 3 years ago but I've been here for about 2 now and its great. Sure I visit other forums but this is where I participate. This is indeed a good community with good guys willing to help. I try to help as much as I can and in turn get plenty as well. Do I enjoy the drama? Sure I do I think its what gives this place character. lime wicked said we have a weird sense of getting along but it works. A ski g for free stuff is my pet peeve and I hate it. Nothing wrong with getting free stuff but asking (unless its an emergency) is just rude.

haven't been here 3 years but compared to the other sites, theres a reason im on here all the time now. i enjoy the open conversations, a little drama and there are people on here who know what they are talking about. i think sites need all three to strive. i feel like there is a time line of reefers that you see on here:

NEWB - guy who lurks and doesn't want to ask stupid questions like whats a sump.
NOVICE - guy who is confident enough to start asking questions, tank might be up 3 months
BEGINNER - guy who is learning, participating buying used stuff
INTERMEDIATE - full tank shots, going to club meets, dosing properly, selling older equipment.
ADVANCED - gives advice to newbs, knows most veterans on/off forums, upgraded tanks at least 3 times. sells nice frags
VETERAN - slowly over time has stopped participating in forums, been in and out of the game for 10 years. has used most reactors, been there done that attitude. well respected.
EXPERT - into the hobby so much that it has become a career, speaks at events, speciallizes in one aspect in the field. the guy who has actually been there, done that
