Seriously jesse probably saved me so good last night. If anyone knows I just moved, so obviously I went to a new LFS to see whats up with the area. Ended up getting some water which most did not make it back. I had jesse test the TDS in the water I got before I threw it in my tank. Boy am I glad he was kind enough for me to come over so late last night and test for me. The water I had bought was testing in at !!!!! 167 !!!!!!,... I could have had some serious problems with that quality of water. He even hooked me up with 5 gallons of his own which tests perfect 000's to replace that water. Just wanted to say thanks again Jesse!!!

A couple questions.

1) the test was done from a new or used plastic jug?
2) in what type of vessel was the Tds measured?

Although not impossible to get "Nasty Nate" water from an lfs or even the wrong salinity when getting salt water (I've got nasty stories) a formerly used water bin can contain traces of Tds from previous water. Only way to know for sure is catching ina glass receptacle at the lfs what actual Tds is.

Did you buy salt water or top off water? Maybe they gave you the wrong water?

It was top off water, I poured his water into a cup and tested it, I then emptied it and filled same cup without rinsing it, with my water. That's not to say his container might of been dirty???

If that 5 gallon transpo container once in its life was used for salt water, it will read high Tds until it is steraliZed.

Well think if a container has some salt residue how much Total dissolved Solids will it read? Also reading from anything plastic gives you up to a 10% error
This it true. I mix my salt in the same barrel I keep my ro/di. I have 30gal barrel. I'll fill it up Sunday with ro/di then fill my top off Monday and Thursday. Then refill my storage to 15 gallons Friday and make salt in it on sat and do water change on Sunday, then refill barrel again. But if I don't rinse the barrel out before refilling my tds on Thursday will be something like 125ppm. But I test it coming right out of the line at 0ppm.

I guess I didn't think about it, because I never used my RO/DI water jugs, with salt water buckets
