ok here's my $.02 that's probably worthless anyways. It's common practice that products will only warranty their merchandise from an authorized dealer. The whole point of that is to protect dealers and to help drive traffic their way. So the distributor or manufacturer does have the right to refuse warranty to a customer that purchased something from an unauthorized dealer. But I don't think that is fair and I'll let Wally clarify this, but if Tom is not honoring anything that was purchased from IGC prior to the fallout then that is not right for the customer. Because IGC was authorized to sell their merchandise at the point of purchase and the customer has nothing to do with IGC breaking contract.
If Tom only means that any further purchase of products from IGC will not be warrantied then I think that's fair and I'm prettty sure none of the other seaside dealers are objecting to it either, especially if they're playing by the rules. Yeah it sucks for the unknowing customer that scores a sick deal, but if Tom has to honor their warranty then how would that help all the other stores abiding by the rules? Customer's will still go for the cheapest price if that's the case. Finally, if the LFS is selling products without warranty and not telling the customer it's as-is or willing to risk eating the cost if something goes wrong then that's the shadiness of the LFS and not the supplier. (not accusing IGC if they're being that way either cuz if they sold it to you and said it's as-is then that's 100% on the customer).
Finally,
I didn't read the whole thread but did anyone say they actually had an issue trying to get a product warrantied and got rejected by both IGC and Seaside?
FYI just my opinion not trying to preach religion or stir feathers and I'm not a fanboy of Tom or Seaside stuff either. I only bring this up because I've been in the car audio distributorship biz in my past life and these issues are extremely commonplace. Good chance if you went to a car audio shop, not all their products they either carry or can get they are authorized for. Instead at least with "decent" shops, warranties can happen in house and someone eats the cost.
