I am currently using Red Sea Coral Pro and my tank seems happy with it, but I'm not because I absolutely hate the brown residue that it leaves behind. I had the same issue with Reef Crystals and DD H2Ocean. Brightwell's, too.

So, I am thinking of saving some $$$ and going with Instant Ocean. For whoever uses it, do you get any residue buildup in the mixing containers?
Same question can go out to Coralife users. Thanks, Dave

the only salt that ever leave a residue in my container would be D&D. instant ocean and reef crystal mixes extremely clean. red sea coral pro also mixes clean. did not use brightwell yet. Even tho i used many brand of salt i always go back to IO as i never have problem with IO and my corals seem to do fine with IO.

Red Sea Coral Pro doesn't mix clean for me as well. It leaves a gross brownish layer in the barrel and if it's not cleaned right away, it's harder to remove later. I was thinking of IO too Dave. I used a bag of it that Ramzy got from Tony a while back and all was well..although I did mix it with Red Sea at the time since I ran out.

Anyways my friend Jon(BADFISH) was using IO in his tank and he had a very beautiful tank with awesome results when he had his tank up and running. I may try it on my next bucket of salt I purchase.

All we will use is IO salt, tried to use the Coralife and it stained our mixing buckets. We use it in all our breeding tanks as well as our reef and all is good with the IO salt :D

run a powerhead with water and vinegar and the brown stuff comes off. I only do this once a month and have had no issues. I just think it is worse to look at than bad for the tank. I'm guessing it is just the added cal, alk and mg that the "reef Pro" stuff gets...

No residue in the buckets? I'm not too worried about the parameters since I dose all that stuff anyways...

There is no residue, or stains of any sort with IO salt and like you, I dose whatever my reef needs in addition to what the salt has, the breeders get their own dosing as well. So for me, a nice clean mix with no extra cleaning is key, casue I have enough cleaning with 11 pairs of clowns. We go through 150g of salt mix in about a week and a half right now and thats about to go up also.

My TMP is running out on this next WC, I already bought some IO. I also have seen some nice setups using specifically IO. It's not the salt it's the other stuff you do or don't do that makes your tank sweet or whack.

Dave just join me in the no water changes club lol. I can't remember the last water change I did. I just add salt sometimes to my RO resevior to keep salinity up.

Nice thought, but I definitely see a difference when I skip water changes...
