I've been looking into ways to get my corals growing and opening up fuller, and I came across iodine dosing a couple times. Does anyone do this regularly and what have you observed after you started dosing? My tank's mostly acans and zoas, no sps for me :(

I've read and heard iodine being easily remove and/or used up by corals, but haven't seen much discussion on iodine dosing. Tagging along on this thread.

I have a 30 gallon system with a mix reef and I use iodine. I use brightwells lugols iodine solution. I put a drop every other day. Everything looks good to me, but maybe it just makes me feel better. You gotta be extremely careful using iodine though, just slightly od and you could nuke the tank. You're supposed to test iodine before adding it to be safe, but I didn't. Really risky I know, but I underdose. I figure a little is better than none. Been doing it about a year now. Just be careful is all I'm saying, but try it. See how it works for you.

How would a drop every other day translate with a 10 gallon tank? Would testing at that level be a little more necessary?

That will be to much. You have to dilute. Or you can get more diluted solutions. Brightwell has one called iodion I think.

I have a 120 gallon mixed reef and was dosing 5 drops of Lugols a week. My corals just recently started to look discolored so I purchased the red sea color test. I was low on Iodine, Iron, and Potassium. I started dosing all three and within a week my corals already look better.

Iodine dosing is an essential part to corals growth, honestly surprised to hear that there are people not testing and dosing as needed. I also use lugols solution its very highly concentrated, thats why a drop a every other day works in his tank. For my 225 I use way more but it deff makes a huge difference.

I thought iodide test kits were way too inaccurate to be reliable. No personal experience, just what I've heard around. But all test kits frustrate me even though I continue to test. Well I generally only test alk (once or twice a week), nitrate weekly and phosphate monthly. I have used triton as well but that is $50 a pop

I have been dosing Continuum Iodine Lugol's EX twice a week. I have read that it helps goniopora so it's why I started. 0 issues with any of my corals since I started. I might up the dosing to 3x a week to see what happens.

Is it better to dose daily/a little over a few days than giving it a weekly dosage?
