Yeah I had one of those days too...
Got woken by the neighbors high pitch shrieking about a power outage at about 840 am, had that horrid "s*** the tank " moment, followed by it must be OK as no overflow alarm went off. Decide to go and look, get downstairs and there is about 5 gallon of water over the floor.
The alarm was turned off - probably from where I was topping up, etc. the other day. I have no spare water as that was on today's list to do. So I think must dash and get some water, next problem - electric parking lots gates are closed. So I think I'll walk to Harbor Freight and buy that generator that's also been on the to do list - but they're shut due to the power outage. Walk home and power is back on. Drive to LFS and they're not open until 1100 but let me in early to get some water as it's an emergency. (Neptunes Reef, PCH, Torrance - they've been great help throughout new tank set up.
I thought I had the water levels set up right for a power failure. What I hadn't allowed for was the water syphoning back through the return pump into the sump and over the floor! Now have a check valve fitted to the pump line, a generator ready to go. Even getting the gas can for that was hassle - I had a $10 coupon mailed to me by Pepboys so I go to use that for a $14 can, but the coupon won't scan. The manager calls their help desk who insist that I have already used the coupon - despite the fact it only arrived Friday in the mail. Very rude woman on the help desk basically calls me a liar, refuses to connect me to a supervisor and won't give me a mailing address to write to then hangs up on me!!!! I am rather mad now, fortunately the store manager saw and heard the exchange and gave me the value of the coupon as a goodwill gesture.
Now sat here with large glass of rum watching Pawn Stars. Guess that's the last of our power outages for the year
