Great pump for the money. I am waiting on the new controller to be able to place the pump lower in the tank and turn it down around 15%. Not pretty and not as quiet as a tunze, but moves beast amounts water.

You can do the Apex modification that Juan (JBaeza) did. The Apex will control the gph and anything else. You just need the VDM plugs which the full apex already has two of. I have two that I want to do this to.

Thanks guys! It's what boredom and having more time on your hands than u need does... There's some things I left out of the vid tho that I wish I'd said but hey, I'm not Steven Spielberg lol

Forgot to mention, I also ordered the new controller from fish street last night. I wouldn't have even known about it if I hadn't gone through threads on SCR about the pumps, so thanks for that as well.

Those VDM modules seem great. Wondering just how much control they actually allow with powerheads...just speed/gph or can you set wave modes and stuff too? Eventually I'll get an Apex and I can start messing with all that but for now I'm stuck with the controller.

Can a vdm be added to an apex Jr without adding anything else ?

I believe it can. I mean you'd obviously need a light or pump for it to do anything but you'd only need the module to connect it to the Apex.

From what I understand they'll control everything. We need Juan up in here to confirm. If you get the full Apex it already has 2 vdm ports so you wouldn't need the extra module. You'd only need it if you had more controllable pumps/lights than ports that are on the Apex (2). Let me see if I can find Juan's thread about the mod to the pump. He had programming code in there too and that'll confirm what all you can control.

Sweet, if that's the case maybe ill pick up an Apex sooner than later. I should've had one with all the d*** $ I've spent on other junk...

One issue I had with the 40 is the power supply went out after 2 weeks of use. I picked up a universal adapter for 10 bucks on eBay and haven't had any issues as of now. I have it on a 180g and I can get a 3" wave going very easy. All in all well worth it over the higher priced tunze or vortech.
