i seriously hate those types of acrylic tanks now though. this new sump is exactly the same size as my current 100g, except with the top bracing completely chopped off, and the sides bow/flex SO MUCH that gluing it together was **** near impossible.. >_<

U ever think of going with 80w t5s and ditching the DIY LEDs? I would save the headache of DIY, and just go with Chinese LEDs and 4-80w t5s. I had 90-3w DIY LEDs and 4-80w t5s on my 180, and I would get 300+ par on the sand bed.

well, i already have the 3 chinese LEDs (currently running them), and i have the 2 DIY leds that Kenny made, so it's not as if i'm building that from scratch.

the main reason for the mix is that the DIY led that kenny built can be dimmed by the apex, so i plan to ramp up those LEDs, and then the T5s, and then the 3 chinese LED, and then reverse it.

Oh ok gotcha. Yea dimming LEDs with the apex is pretty nice for sunrise/sunset. I would still go with the 5' t5s. The edges of your tank might not blend right. Mixing all those different lights might look weird. I had that problem with some of the lights I've built.

Yo JTJ, better equipment cost more but usually last longer in this hobby. To quote low budget, "what a noob." How is that for grammar?

Nice thing about metal stands. So much lighter than wood.

This stand for the 180 (6'x2'x3'6 tall) is easily movable solo. Probably weighs 1/3 of what a wood stand this site would have been
