Filter socks for me, change them out every 3 to 4 days. I've gone both ways, I just like having that "suspended in mid air" look.

Without socks, there are more particles floating around. With socks it's particle free, and crystal clear.

Corals don't seam to be affected either way.

0 socks for the past 7 months and my water is crystal clear. I also have my Apex turn off the skimmer from 11pm-1030am.

I never used to use filter socks (had a low flow/multi chamber sump) but I use them now because my media reactor pumps will suck up and left over food that may end up in the sump. They also help with the return pipe water noise-

I have not seen any improvement or negative effects on my coral. So for me its just another hassle and item to clean/maintain :a10:

Thanks everyone for your input.... I think I am going to use a mesh sock, that I have laying around. I was using 100 micron felt sock, this sock captures everything ! I know when ever you make a change...DO IT gradually....So my thinking changing to a mesh sock will be a slight change. I want a little more nutrients to flow thru the sump back into the tank to help feed the corals. Any more thoughts ?????
