So far I've gotten all my corals from various fraggers in the area through the forums here and CL. I went to 2 LFS and looked around but never really asked for their prices on corals.

I'm still a beginner in the hobby so I don't think I'm really ready for frags over $20. Once I gain more experience and my matures a bit more I'd try some. So should I just continue searching for local sellers or can I find frags at LFS in my price range as well?

Join a reef club you'll be better off. Some of the people have grown out colonies of items you might want, and are proven growers.

I think just like buying anything else, shop around. See different stores, different hobbyists' selections and price, and buy accordingly. In general and I think most would agree, buying fragged corals from hobbyists would be your best bet.

What I've found is the more friends you make in this hobby the better off we all are, store and hobbyist alike.

Coral Gazers does have a nice selection of frags and corals compared to other stores. I would definitely suggest going by there if you can.

I wish it where true but notice that some store owners are kinda lazy. No very lazy and if they did do this and packs for a certain amount while in the store they would make more $.

The deceased coral hot spot would have a 10$, 20$, and up. He would also do like a certain pack for 120$, 160$ or whatever I had at the time.

And every time I would leave I wouldn't even have enough money for a single lap dance at the Goose. :-(

also, you gotta remember that an enthusiast will have healthier frags than most LFS... since a LFS constantly gets new shipments, and sometimes wild corals, you never know what parasites, diseases or type of reef aids that's in their water... that's why it's a good idea to dip...

also... most of the frags that fraggers/enthusiast have came from an LFS at first... you might go into a random LFS and get something new and rare... you just have to keep your eyes open and know what's different or hot...

also... LOL...

some fraggers/enthusiast will be cheaper... like most of us here are... but there are some that are chop shop style fraggers... you know, they go to the wholesalers/LFS, get a huge coral colony, frag it up, and sell it to make $texas amount of cash back from unknowing hobbyist... so trucha...

What do you guys think about Petco prices for their corals. Reasonable or overpriced?
I have never seen any coral there to begin with. Only tomato clowns. And they seemed to be overpriced so I would say don't. I feel like PETCO if for suckers that don't know much about the hobby, and they hit ya with high prices.

This is for online, not in store. From what I heard their online is separate and their stock comes straight from the wholesaler. I guess the question is, does their store represent the quality of their online wholesaler as well?
