how many of you do a lights out period, and if so how often and for how long? Have a little hair algae and diatom bloom happening after about 5 months of running.

Yea I would try to solve the problem a different way. Later, when you have a lot of corals you won't be able to go lights out

I had really thick mats of cyano on my rocks and sand bed. It was so bad my corals started closing. After I got my two wp40s I did a strict lights out with NO feeding. I was so tempted to peek at my tank in those 3 days but I didn't. I skimmed wet the whole time and used a filter sock which I changed out every day for the 3 days. I am now cyano free. Checked phos and I'm at .25 (used to be at .50) so I plan on getting a gfo reactor some day.

Its more of a band aid really... You should determine why it happened in the first place. Adding too much too soon? Inadequate nutrient export? Is your source water free of tds? Etc.
Lights out will help for the time but if you don't fix the cause its just gonna come right back
