Hello SoCal! I'm on more generic forums such as Reef2Reef, ReefCentral, and Nano-Reef and was always looking to see where's another forum that is still really active in the hobby. I found SoCaliReefs, and it so happens I'm only a 5 hour drive away (I'm from the Bay Area, haha). Rather than be a lurker, hopefully I will contribute to this forum and drool over all of the eye candy that's in SoCal. LOL. At least I recognize a few familiar names on here.

Well, nothing gets an introduction to myself like letting my tank do the talking!

Here's my Solana 25, been up and running since around Sept-Oct of '12. Frags still got to grow, collection still needs more spending. You know how it goes, haha.

Equipment:

  • Solana 25
  • Kessil 350 Narrow w/ Gooseneck
  • AquaMaxx HOB-1 Protein Skimmer
  • Tunze Osmolator
  • MP10
  • Eheim Jager 125w Heater
  • Chemi-Pure Elite
  • FHI Premium Rock

Here's some early day photos:

And now we fast forward to a month ago.

As of right now, I removed a lot of pieces that I didn't want, so it looks fairly empty atm compared to the above picture. I also am making the left island an anemone island with some corals (if the btas don't sting them, yikes). I'll post some pics of livestock soon. :)

Rather than just seeing the fast forward pics, here's my thread on Nano-Reef that shows my tank's journal.

What up Darwin! Welcome to the darkside.. J/K! Glad to see you here on SCR, tank is looking amazing man!!
Hey! How's it going man? Cool to see some familiar names on here.

Wow those are some amazing pieces. Now are those clown divinci grade A?
Hey bkoo29, those are Doni Picassos. Had the girl for about 4 years now and the boy for almost a year.

Really nice tank. Where did you get the 3rd nem from, and what is it called?
Thanks John, nice to see my anemone buddy on here. You're to blame for tempting me to get them, lol! The third one is funny. That's actually Windy City Reef's Rainbow Flame BTA,

Looked like this on the site, and right before they shipped it to me:

But shipping made it turn all brown in color, with hints of yellow on the tips. It was still healthy, and a few months later...

It ended up turning to a flame tip vs a lemon drop looking morph. Really interesting, still curious as to what it will look like fully colored.

That fungi a on the top left of one of the pics is awesome.
Thanks Bean, it's one of my faves. I hear you got a thing for zoas?

Got it from Woo's Aquatics, Lauren and Tim are great! It's a wild piece, not a space invader. So I'm not sure how it'll do in captivity, it came in a bit roughed up from shipping. Hope it makes it.

I'm using a Canon G12, it's like a fancier point and shoot. I like it. :)
