So my magnesium has been very low the past few months. I started dosing brs magnesium 3 weeks ago. Haven't noticed an changes yet. Not every coral is doing bad but I have sps and zoas/polyps taking turn losing color and melting. Magnesium has been between 750-850. Calcium 390 probably because of the mag. Phosphate zero. Nitrate 10 to 20.

I add a teaspoon of turbo calcium daily. Top off with kalk. dose 10ml of vinegar dailly. Any ideas on a better way of raising mag? Dosing mag is not even touching it. I also started mixing my own water 1 month ago and cut down to water changes every 3 to 4 weeks.

Tank is 150g.

Thanks!!!

I am always chasing my mag :( If it gets below 1100 I do abig wc.. Otherwise you could go broke dosing it back to ideal! After wc test it and dose from that point. Saves time and MONEY.. Just my 2 cents :)

Hi Derrick, use Kent Tech - M. Make sure you buy thr 1 gallon. IME, its more concentrated than the thrive aquatics magnesium.

Your mangroves probably eats your magnesium.

What brand salt are you mixing? I'd probably start ramping up water changes with a good salt mix.
I'm using troping marine.

Sorry jami I don't know how to quote multiples. I did a big water change last month. Not huge. 45 to 50 gallons. Tested before and after and almost no difference. I haven't tried testing just the new water yet.

Francis. I will give that a try. Maybe lll get rid of the mangroves. Do they consume that much? I only have about 6 or 7 plants.

I got my mag up pretty quick by dosing with Brightwell Aquatics. 60 gallon tank and I dose 5-10ml daily, plus a little extra when I do a water change since I've been using NSW.

So is tropic marine bad or not good? I will try the brioghtwell brand if it doesn't seem to get any better in a week. Does anyone thing its because of the temp? 82 is way warmer than I ever want to be. But without a chiller I have no choice. I turn off the lights and leave all the doors open at night to help cool.

I was using TP (not the pro) for quite a while and when I started testing for mag I was sitting on 1100. Then I tested a fresh batch and the replacement water tested at 1100 also. I was very upset the this salt gave me such low numbers for the amount of money it costs. Switched to IO and figured if I have to adjust the big 3 I might as well save some money. Guess what? Never had to dose mag with IO but only have a couple of corals and one SPS, and a clam (waiting for my new build before getting more lifestock). So, yes, I thought I did the right thing of overpaying on a supposedly great salt but have been very happy with IO. Going on my 2nd box right now.

If your mag is between 750-850 then dosing a spoonful a day is not going to do anything. You need to add a large amount to get it to 1300+

You can use the bulk reef supply calculators to know how much you need to dose. At those numbers using the brs stuff you probably need about 2 gallons to get it to where it needs to be

I dose Magnesion from Brightwell. It seems to get my 60 gal frag tank Mg level from 700 to 1300 within 3-4 days of dosing twice recommended dosage.

I've used Kent Tech-M to raise mag from 1200 to 1440.... then once to its level I've sustained that level dosing with brightwell magnesium. You can really never overdose Mag but rule of thumb to not go over 100ppm a day.

Thats can be detrimental in a small tank and not enough in a large one. Rule of thumb is not to exceed 1ppm per gal per day. Hth
