So I've been reading SunnyX's thread over in RC about him dosing MB7 (Microbacter&) by Brightwell Aquatics, accompanied with Vodka Dosing. I was wondering if anyone else is using this method to achieve ULN (Ultra Low Nutrient).

The idea is to seed your tank with beneficial bacteria from MB7 and to use vodka to propagate these bacteria to lowerl phosphate and nitrate.

Hey Nick I just started this method 3 weeks ago. My corals are looking great. Keep in mind, if you have a refugium you will need to remove it at about 2 weeks of starting MB7. Dosing the vodka will eventually starve your chaeto and cause it to release unwanted nutrients in your tank. Slow start is the best!! I love this method!

Good tip! I really need to get rid of my refugium anyways. It's becoming nothing but a detrius trap.

Yea, same here. I am removing my refugium this weekend. Good luck with everything!
Thanks, I'm waiting for my delivery of MB7 from MD, that should be arriving anytime now.

BTW, do you have any pics of a before and after of your corals?

As of now, I don't I have a before pic of my tank. I will def put an after pic in about 2-3 months when my tank has settled with the vodka. This is what it looks like right now with just a few more frags. It is still a very young tank.

Do you actually put vodka in you tank? and how much?
Definately start slow and read as much as you can about vodka dosing before starting. That link Krucial posted is the guideline I use fo rmy tank.

Btw, I started dosing MB7 last night. Dilluted 8drops of MB7 into an 8oz bottle, shaken and added into a low flow section of my tank. I'm planning to do this everyday for the next 2 weeks to properly seed the tank with the good bacteria.

Cool Nick, I know we will get great results with the method. BTW, I heard that it is ok to dose the drops straight in your display tank. I do it right in front of the powerhead and have not had a problem at all.

Interesting Nick. I may try this out, just to see if there is a difference. My current vodka dose is VERY high... I wonder if it would change with this additive...

Hey Nick,

I didnt see any benefit in dosing vodka, if fact I got some rtn on my sps when dosing vodka, and I followed the rc link posted. Just my two cents. What seemed to work well for me was zeovit.

I recently bought some MB7 at AW and have been dosing for over a month and am using zeoliths. I am going to see how my sps respond to just MB7 dosing and zeo rocks, no vodka.
