i would never sell a leaky tank to anyone. When the he came to pick the tank up from me i told him bring padding and blankets to protect the tank so it would not get damaged in transit. All that he brought was 2 blankets that was not enough. So how did i not know that is how the leak came about. And for the pics about the water damage on the inside of the stank that was do to slatcreep from the sump.He texted me and called me and i could not talk to him because i was at work and did not get till really late.I was going to call him back and make things right like he said and if i could help him get it fix.But him text messages started to get threatening and that is when i put my guard up.I do not want to have any Problems.I have never screwed anyone and do not intend too.I am sorry that in turned out this way.But i can't take the tank because he was here for an hour looking at and asked me alot of questions and i answered them to the best of my knowledge.I would have filled it with water if he asked he but he did not.How I not know that the tank started leaking because he did not package it right and it got damaged on his way home. That tank was my pride joy the only reason i sold it was because I upgraded

That seriously looks like splashing and not dripping from above. I think you're both screwed since you didn't check before leaving. The tank looks rimless and if you put that on a flatbed. The slightest bouncing could do anything. I once sold a light which the seller tested vigorously flipping and turning it around. He took it home without the conference cussions and just carried the light over his head. The next day 2/8 bulbs kept turning off which means loose wiring. But he kept blaming me for selling him a bad fixture with a bad ballast. A bad ballast would shut off 4 bulbs. Not 2. Lucky for me I took pictures of all bulbs working right before he came. Then a month later. Someone I knew bought a used fixture from him. I had him ask about my fixture. He told my buddy it was loose wiring. But he still blames me for selling him a bad fixture. So I say you must test everything before leaving. Because anything can happen during transport if poorly transported.

Why would I have some that I do know come to my house and sell them bad stuff for $275 and that sell all so included the skimmer with it to for such little money to start crap.I would not i am very passionate about this hobby and I have a lot of time and effort in it.It is like you sold someone a fish and it is happy and healthy in your tank and he takes it home and it dies is that your fault?

As pointed out, that looks like splash damage, I would think that a leak from the tank would have more damage at the top and less further down.

a 50g tank is pretty small, assuming its 3/8in glass, a few bumps in the back of a truck or inside of a car isnt going todo anything to it...

magically if it did happen during transit, that means it was a time bomb waiting to blow up in the living room... better you found the leak now opposed to finding 50g of water on the floor.

hit up chad and see what he can do for you? its a pretty easy fix and that was a decent price for the tank.

I didn't read all the comments, so sorry if this is a redundancy....

It is almost guaranteed that both parties are victims here.

- Seller has little to gain in KNOWINGLY selling a faulty tank (think about it, who would purposely subject themselves to this kind of grief???)

- Buyer has no idea WHEN the damage to the tank occured

- Damage to Aquariums occurs far more often during TRANSPORT than at any other time (especially glass aquariums)

I think it may be time to step back from the emotions and apply some rudimentary critical thinking

Pictures!!!!! Just to kill all this victimless he probably didn't know nonsense, if the tank never leaked on him why did he attempt to reseal it, I guess cadlights corners & seams were too clean for him & he was going for a sloppier look to his build 😐 Granted both seams are sloppy but the one in red the way it tappers in at the corner is horrible, can you see the water beneath the glass? That seam didn't get that way in transit, it's a shoddy DIY reseal job that still didn't hold water for him, so he purchased another tank & sold his problem to the next reefer he pulled a con. Whenever I would start looking at the tank he'd talk not stop about everything but the tank. This guy really came across as a reefer who just upgraded & was passing on some love & I bought into it, if that makes me a fool which is what I feel like I'm guilty.

Too bad this whole thread could be avoided if the seller responded to op's attempts to contact. Threatening or not, it's a lot better off than having your name being blasted like this.

Now that I'm looking at it with all the facts I can see the con. The guy barely looked me in the eye, just kept looking down he seamed ok & very very talkative, but it was like he was admiring his garage floor the whole time I was there. Any time I looked at the tank he got very animated & chatty at one point he even drew me away telling me to look at this light & some other Items he was peddling. I admit he fooled me he seemed like a square. When I called him after the leak left messages, left text no responses at all I was like awwww man did I really fall for this! Only when I text I'm loading up the tank to bring it to your door. Then he text me I'm not at home, this was an as is sale, this transaction is over I'll call the police if you come here! I text back call the cops, I haven't broken any laws, nor do I plan to & maybe they'll make you do the right thing.

He had tried resealing the tank & failed so he had to have known about the leak. He probably doesn't do this sort of thing all the time but maybe he saw an opportunity to scam some funds for his new build & couldn't resist. I'm just kicking myself for not seeing through it though.

Sometimes those reseal job would work for a little while before it leaks again. Did he tell you if it was ever a problem for him? Was he the first owner?

It's straight shady any way you want to carve it. The seller knew that's why it was so cheap. Karma is a equalizer . This hobby is way to small for people to t bag you and play the victim.

I know neither party to this dispute,
I do, however, know how quick people are to judge, ridicule, and slander at the slightest whim. (reminiscing years now past)
Hopefully the issue at hand can be resolved without the typical war-of-wits and inevitable character assassination that follows.

Do try to remember that:
A) the person with whom you quarrel is a fellow human being, and
B) that whatever object is of dispute is just that: an object

No disrespect to anyone involved, just a thought or two to offer....from a humble nobody

Not trying to picking sides but if i were buy a use tank of all things, i would of leak test the tank for sure. I remember selling a brand new ato still in wrap and the guy wanted to leak test it. He said you just never know. Anyways hope all work out for both parties involved.
