Super cool Pix..
nice thaks for sharing
why am i not surprised?

as for the pics, very nice pics chad, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Guys!

AWESOME PICS!!! I'm going to ST. THOMAS, ANTIGUA, TORTOLA BVI, & NASSAU, BAHAMAS in the middle of May and I plan on snorkling (don't know how to dive yet) at every stop... It's no FIJI but they have good fish and hopefully it will be fun!!!
You will no doubt have an awesome time! The Caribbean is definitely nice, but like you said, it kind of pales in comparison to the diversity the Pacific can offer. Take pics and share when you get back!

Yeah, he was a little shy, but that was the best pic I could get of him. He's my wife's favorite too :)

Great pics. What Island(s) did you go to? My wife and I went to Matangi last year. Good times. We scubaed pretty much every day!
Thanks! The island itself is called Namenalala (or Namena) and is only 110 acres. It's about a 2 hour boat ride off the southeast coast Vanua Levu (out of Savusavu). It was definitely the most beautiful place I had seen!

Thanks for sharing the pics!
Your welcome! :)

Next are some pics of some various animals/corals that I came across...

First is this AWESOME looking clam... never seen a color pattern like this and this was no more than 10 feet off of our dock!

Then there's this oyster (I think) of some sort...

Yellow Leather...

Orange Lobo (I think)...

Some Christmas Tree worms...

A nice pink/purple Fungia...

And the BIGGEST Bubble Coral I have ever seen!

Next I think I'll show you guys some of the SPS I saw over there...

Wow, amazing!

I wonder what the regulations are for "collecting"...
Yeah it was...

I won't lie, the thought briefly crossed my mind of taking a "little here and a little there", but since 1) It would've been illegal in the marine reserve, 2) The frags probably wouldn't have survived my trip, and 3) The corals were so spectacular I didn't want to "mess them up", I decided against it... :a26:

'Course, I know there are collection spots somewhere over there, so I would definitely look into it if I were you.

Yeah... there were a TON of these. It seemed like they created decent-sized schoals under the overhangs, and I just so happened to get a decent shot of this guy.

Still wondering why I came back though... hahaha.

Thanks,

Chad

Alright... here's some SPS for you guys...

There were A TON of colors, but I think because of the times I went (maybe the direction of the sun) sometimes they would show in the camera, and sometimes not. But here are a few pics that turned out pretty good.

So the next set of pictures are some of my favorites. Not that they are especially good or anything, but because they are one of my favorite animals in the ocean... SHARKS.

I've been diving for the last several years in different places, and have swam with Whale Sharks, Bull Sharks, Leopard Sharks and some Black Tip Reef Sharks, but I have NEVER seen as many sharks as I did in Fiji (an indiciation of a thriving ecosystem).

In fact, every morning, I would walk out on our deck (that overlooked the island reef below), and we would see baby black-tip reef sharks swimming in the shallows looking for their next meal. And almost every single snorkel/dive trip, I would see at least one (usually more) shark cruising around (either a Black-tip Reef, White-tip Reef, or Gray Reef shark).

One cool story happened about midway through our trip. When at breakfast with the divemaster, we were talking about how much we had seen so far, and what animals that were out there that we hadn't seen yet. He knew that I loved sharks, so he mentioned that the only other shark that you sometimes see are Hammerheads, but that this was rare since they usually stuck to the open waters.

I bet you can guess what we saw not more than one hour later when on our morning snorkelling trip... yep, a pair of hammerheads (on the small side... only about 6 feet long and extremely thick bodies)!!! Too bad I couldn't get any great pictures of them, but here are a few other shark pics...

Enjoy!

beautiful pictures of beautiful creatures!!!

Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Yeah, my wife thinks I'm crazy (although she's starting to catch on since she swam with them too), but I just love swimming with sharks. I also think they're much more intelligent than we give them credit for... very beautiful creatures.
