I am using Red Sea Coral Pro Salt. For Salinity, I have two refractometer and I use them to cross reference the salinity... Since it's been so hot these days with the evaporation, that might be an issue (I top it off every night though).

I think I will try the soda ash path for now and see if I can raise my kH. Doesn't look like the corals and coralline algae is consuming much of the calcium though. I will try to get kH a little higher and go from there.

Will report in about a week.
The salt you’re using has high calcium (465ppm @ 35ppt), so your redsea test kit which is only sensitive to 15ppm could easily read 465 as 480 and vice versa. Water changes won’t help you bring down your Ca. Even with 2 refractometers you’ll still want to make sure you’re calibrating them every once in a while, if your salinity creeps up a bit then your minerals will also creep up.

Salinity isn/t that critical. The salt never leaves the tank other than if you remove water and salt creep. If a gallon evaporates, and you add a gallon of RO/DI back in, your salinity will stay the same. I do kno a girl who topped off with salt water for a rear and her SG got to 051 LOL, things lived through that

Don’t forget to shake up your calibration liquid well before using it on your refractomerter. I wasn’t shaking mine and yeah , it cause md lots of problems . The only way your calcium would get slowly depleted on it’s own is if you have stony corals absorbing it :)

Hi everyone,

Quick update on my tank...

I got the ICP results back. Looks like few things are at scary high level...

Since I haven't make an effort to bump the kH yet, I am wondering if I should dose soda ash given the numbers (I know marine buffer have Boron)...

Also, any thoughts on how to lower the Sulfur and Boron? I am guessing water change ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ?

Too High
Ca - 520
Mg - 1511
Sulfur - 1003 (suggested 800)
Boron - 14.4 (suggested 5)

Too Low
Cr - 0 (suggested .8)
Fe - 3 (suggested 20)
Mo - 5.6 (suggested 10)
Ni - .28 (suggested 5)
V - 0 (suggested 1.7)
Zn - 0 (suggested 20)
Po4 - 35 (suggested 300)
