whats the difference of your design and this one? other then yours being squared and use 4 plastic screw? http://www.avastmarine.com/ssc/do/product/rigging/Top-Down-Porthole-XL
The porthole had a PVC body with an acrylic lens and the AA one is all acrylic. I wonder if you use a wide angle lens with the AA box, how much of the black you'd see. Obviously, with a 100mm or 60mm macro, no problem but when you're shooting at 18mm to get more corals in the shot, I wonder how much black you'd see.

you really know those plate are made in china wait some parts of china is third world -.- carry on. .
it's a design feature. that's how you know it's hand made, like those cups and plates made by children in 3rd world countries.

I shot with my stock canon lens, and it worked fine.
