The price is a factor for one.

The Avastmarine one probably easier to do fine focusing with the round barrel but costs like $15 more plus shipping

The porthole had a PVC body with an acrylic lens and the AA one is all acrylic. I wonder if you use a wide angle lens with the AA box, how much of the black you'd see. Obviously, with a 100mm or 60mm macro, no problem but when you're shooting at 18mm to get more corals in the shot, I wonder how much black you'd see.

it's a design feature. that's how you know it's hand made, like those cups and plates made by children in 3rd world countries.

I shot with my stock canon lens, and it worked fine.
