Hi I'm thinking of getting a bigger tank in the next month or so and I wanted to ask you guys for some help. I want a 36Lx24Wx20T rimless and I want to setup a refugium and pump but I don't know what size I need to go with. Any info will help. Thank you in advance.

The bigger the better is key. The amount of water that can pass throug the protein skimmer, carbon, gfo reactor is key. If I was you I would go 35x23. Good luck.

Welome to the forum Benny!

There are many ways of plumbing this. When I plumb tanks I generally like to use a 'T' off the main return line and use that to feed the refugium. You could also use a 'T' off the overflow, but it is easier to regular gph using the return line instead.

If I was setting up this tank for a client, I would use a 700-900gph return pump and would T-off ~100gph into the refugium. I would use (2) additional powerheads in the display for additional circulation. Perhaps something similar to a Koralia 2.

That's a loaded question, if you have no $ limit get a bubble king. If you're on a budget get something like. Reef octopus or similar. Good quality and worth while investment. If you need a cheap-o an asm works ok.

Agree with everyone. Skimmer best you can afford, but I hear the Reef Octopus and I know the SWC cone style get it done. Also on sump/fuge the biggest you can squeeze in is the best. I likely bubble blaster pump made by reef octopus, low wattage and is super quiet. So quiet my tail spot blenny lives on it.

Congrats on the new tank! be sure to take lots of pictures.
you can use a water blaster as a return pump- it is highly efficient. If you want a cheap-but efficient pump the rio-hyper flows are not too bad.
If you have a good chunk of change to spend- look into a tunze return pump or eheim.

I have always liked internal in case it leaks it wont dump water on the floor and can be quieter than an external. Internals have the downside of potentially leaking voltage, oil, etc and also generate heat (not so good in the summer).
Please be sure to get a check valve.
