Most people do large FOWLR tanks with large angles, tangs and aggressive fish cause it just makes sense. Plus there's no corals in FOWLR because the fish in those system eat coral or will eat the clean up crew.
Also lets say u wanted to put clown fish in your little cube. Then one day u say "hay a nice nem to host the clowns would be nice" boom now your not in a FOWLR its a small reef. Just saying it's almost easier to make the cube a reef then doing a small FOWLR.

Yea what he said lol. I suppose u can put dwarf Angels in there but the number of fish for being a fowlr is gonna be very limited. U can definitely build a nice reef tank n size doesn't matter. It will be an interesting tank to follow if u stick with fowlr and see what ideas u get on livestock. Have anything in mind yet on what u plan on putting in there? I went fowlr on mine, it's a 125g. I have 4 Angels in there now, I plan on adding a porcupine puffer in a couple weeks

I get what EMAC909 says and probably true but I'm ok with being limited to fishes.. I can make my tiny tank work with the options out there for that size.. We girls always make things work.. Lol j/k . Greaser9999 when I had fresh water back in the days I tried freshwater puffer poor things always died.. I love puffers!! Post a pic when u get your would love to see it...Don't have anything in mind yet once it's ready to put the fishes in then I'll shop and see what I like and accommodates my mighty tank...

Depending on the cubes size.. I'd say maybe 4 fish at the max.. From cichlids to salt I think the rule of thumb ( an I might be wrong for saltwater) was 4inches per 10 gallons

Chiming in a bit late on this one, but...
Let's start with the formalities:

Welcome... You will find many helpful people here with many suggestions. Keep the questions (and pictures) coming.

And now for a suggestion. As far as how many, or what kind and size of fish, the very old saying that a fish will grow to the size of it's environment is a myth. I never liked the idea of an inch or whatever of fish per whatever gallon measurement. (Sorry Will) I think of a better way to look at it is this; get appropriate sized fish for whatever you are working with. Over simplistic, but.. Small fish, in a small tank. Many fish available to us in our LFS are sold as juveniles, but will, in time, outgrow our tanks. As an example, yellow tangs are often sold at a size acceptable for a 20-30 gallon tank, but in very short order grow to a size requiring AT LEAST 100 gallons.
I suppose that's my long winded answer to what you should or shouldn't put in a small tank.
Do lots of reading, ask lots of questions, be patient, and you will have great success.
