Is there a trick to it? Mine don't seem to be doing well as it was a frag I got. It was beautiful when I got it but now it slowly developing white spots where the tissue is going away.

You may have nudibranch that eat montipora. Dip that thing. The best thing you could do is if you only have that piece of montipora in your tank is to throw it in the trash if you find montipora eating nudis. And if its not the only one and then you have some decision making to do.

There really is no trick to caring for montis. They are generally hardy. Follow sps guidelines. Good water parameters, alk, mag, ca, nitrates, phosphates, salinity. Don't overwhelm with too intense lighting on introduction to your tank. Reasonable water flow. Oh and always dip and carefully observe your coral prior to introduction to your tank to prevent pests

Dip it in coral rx or lugols. You will be fine. I had the same issue in the past

Alk will also cause white spots of burn and so will adding unproperly mixed kalkwasser. Or the alkalinity part. I think what lurking was thinking is its getting blasted but I highly doubt it's too much light that's causing a monti to die or ecr irritated.

Pests or pest fish is my guess

I tested last weekend, don't remember the exact numbers but it was all where its supposed to be and will test again this weekend. I have 6 t5ho... 4 blue, 1 coral wave and 1 16k. It really is the only coral not thriving in my tank. It's weird cause very one says it usually does so well.
