I just got a powder blue tang he / she is about 2" long i hope I didn't make a mistake I've been reading about them. I should have did that before I got it but my Lfs knowing I'm a noob still sold it to me (oh the mighty dollar). the stress problems ich and now I'm a little scared :-/ it's been 2 days he/she seems to be doing well. Did I just freak my self out or do I have problems now? I would like hear from some of the guys who have one is it that hard to keep?

It has ich? Is it hiding or is it feeding? If it is eating. Feed it a lot of seaweed dipped in garlic. Mortality rate is high on this fish.

I don't mean to scare u but it was a powder blue tang that brought ich into my tank in combo with a power outage that stressed everyone and eventually everyone died

Powder blue tangs are one of the prettiest reef fish. Tangs are all susceptible to ich, in particular powder blues and Achilles tangs so that is always a concern. The tank should be stable (especially no large temperature fluctuations) and there should be plenty of room for both swimming and hiding. All tangs like to graze the rocks for algae. Appropriate foods include nori, flakes and pellets. Tangs, like virtually all fish, love most frozen foods. Tangs are predominantly herbivores and variety usually is a good idea with foods. My powder blue eats virtually everything. Tank size needs to be appropriate because these fish do grow. Powder blues can be extremely territorial to all new fish added but often times unrelenting to new tangs added. It's one of those fish that probably should be the last added. Some hobbyists try to add all their tangs simultaneously to avoid territorial battles. Beautiful fish--enjoy

I got a powder brown tang, which is esentailly the same fish, and he brought ich with him. He and my harliquin tusk died as a result. Blue tang also got it bad but seems to have recovered. I won't buy one that has not been treated before buying a tang again.

Pbt is the most striking tang imo. I had 1 for 5yrs, 1" thick fat chest, & it killed 3-4 fish so i gave it away. I just qt withOUT harsh treatment, then feed heavy in the DT. It can be done, not impossible at all. good luck!

From the moment I start reefing I wanted a powder blue. After 5 attempts I finally got my powder blue happy and fat. By far my favorite fish. My tank has ich but he lives with it and is happy and healthy. As long as he is eating, feed him a lot and he will be ok

I tried it once, never again. Wiped out six of my fish, made the mistake of dosing Gordons Rid Ich to the tank instead of a dip, in desperation, and I think thats what saved what I had left. It did however kill a couple corals in the process, and almost killed many others.

If you start to see anything on the fish QT it immediately.

I've had my pbt for about 3 weeks.. he fought off ich himself. All you have to do it feed them really well, keep them fat and healthy. I still worry about mine, if you can keep them over 2 months you are clear.
