How does everyone keep their ammonia / nitrite in check on a quarantine tank? Planning to have two tangs, two clowns, and a wrasse in there at one time for hypo salinity treatment. Any input would be much appreciated.

Do tank transfer method instead...
Hyposalinity doesn't work for me in 10 Years in the hobby :(

Copper works all the time even with wrasse
You just have to do frequent water change.
Every 2-3 days until the bacteria colonized. Use sponge filter to help with bacteria.

Awww man my kole is dead... I think the clown is next. The rest might be fine so ill probably just cross my fingers. I'll try to catch the clown tonight and quarantine him by himself.

I always add a few rocks of live rock to every QT. It makes the ammonia/nitration levels stay non-relevant.

Good flow and low nutrient level will help keep a QT efficient.

I really wanted to add a few rocks and even gravel but all the treatment for ich removal kills all bacteria including the beneficial ones correct? Right now I know it sounds bad but I feel like I'm going to leave them in the tank and just fight it themselves.. hypo and copper treatments both have big disadvantages and either way I got a feeling I'll lose some fish

When I QT again, I'm going to keep a pyrex dish of sand in my sump that will be fully colonized with bacteria and then use that as biological filtration for my QT. Once done with QT, toss the sand and put new sand in the dish and then let the bacteria colonize again. IMO, it'll be better than using rock from a fuge just in case you have to treat with copper

That's because in 10 years you haven't done hypo right. :) When done right hypo works bro, ask Scott, myself, and hundreds of other reefers out there. To each his own, if cooper works better for you go for it. Hypo worked great for me.

I am the one that told Scott ask him.

There are hyposalinity strain of ick. You an read it in RC.
Salinity of 1.0080 verified for 2 weeks it never gets better what did I did wrong?
Ick supposed attached to the fish for 2-8 days only yet it stays longer.

What did you tell Scott? To stop hypo because it doesn't work? Or to start hypo? I'm confused. What I do know is that hypo and UV combo has worked great for him.

If I ever encounter ich again, hypo will be my treatment method of choice. Surely not the only way, but my preferred method.

Hypo and copper sounds like it both works just takes a lot of patience.. I have also just let my other the tank heal by itself and was fine. This is the first time I got beat by ick because I didn't qt early thinking my fish was strong enough to fight it off..

I told him to try it even with the newly cycled tank... anyway if it works for you good luck.
Never work for me.
my tank was on hyposalinity for 10 weeks, at week 8 ick shows up really bad. waited 2 weeks if the ick will go away it did not verified the salinity with multiple people and still Ick. Still there. My friend who is a qt freak pick up one of my Achilles with ick and just do tank transfer method ick went away in 9 days.
i am just saying that there is a few hyposalinity resistant strain in the hobby. Reef central peeps
Believe copper and tank transfer are more effective with ick.
i dont have time to do research right now. also copper kills velvet too, hypo salinity doesn't.

I'll research more about kordon ich when I get home and bullitr I am leaning towards copper treament if I see the tank's state gets worse but right now I feel like the remaining fish will be ok without any treatment.

You cant treat one but not the other, ick will still be in the system. You have to treat all if them if not its worthless. You might be lucky and have the fish develop slight resistant to ick but it will always be there.

Currently I am trying to catch my cleaner wrasse so I can go fallow for 8 weeks. So far no luck almost all my fish are in copper qt. Wrasse, anthias moorish idol and large angel no problem.

You just have to be slowing adding copper therapeutic dose is .35 recommended is .5
But you have to be really really slow specially with angels and fairy wrasse.
