Hey fellow members just wanted to give you guys a heads up and wanted to see if anyone else experienced this on a wtb page. I was scam when I’d put out a wtb chalice there was a member posted saying a person is selling for cheap and gave me someone gmail account…I’d contacted that person and got scammed out of $200 luckily I’d put in a claim with my bank and got it back. I just got another one similar on my wtb chalice add the scam looks like this…just like last time this posted got deleted on socalireef …has anyone else gotten something similar or got scam when posted on wtb page? This has been a thing for months now.

This is why all new members need to be banned from the marketplace until they have meet certain criteria. If they can’t see these things and it’s going to take time and activity to be able, we are less likely to see these scammers attempting these things.

But you guys go ahead and live in team fog

The email address format is a red flag .

Always look at their profile and see how long the persons been a member and how many posts. I've had incidents like that and look at their profile and it literally would say joined the same date they sent the message to me.

But I’m new, and I have a lot of gear I’d like to sell cheap to benefit the community. There’s no perfect system but, I understand. Not much scamming going on for something that has to be face to face like an aquarium. Anyway, I get it. Just annoying. Or even the option to be a paying member to override the post minimum.

I’d agree with most of this. Yes a new member that was a supporter could possibly be a way to get the restrictions lifted. But I do look at it the other way too. What if they become a supporter with a stolen credit card and then scam a bunch of members here. There’s nothing like good old fashion time and participation to see someone’s true colors.

If you really wanted to benefit the community why didn’t you sign up and share your info when people needed that info. Why does benefiting the community have to be about lining your pocket?

Why not sign up wait and participate for 90 days then sell your so called used equipment?

Are you dying? Is this the reason you can’t wait, if that’s the case there always Facebook, Craigslist, or OfferUp to sale your equipment

New members can post and delete the post it doesn’t stop them from posting just selling

But if these new members had restrictions that eliminated them from the marketplace for 90days or 30posts then they wouldn’t see that section of these boards. Yes it won’t stop them from posting sell adds in general areas but we as active members would see sale adds in general areas as a red flag. But if the new member was banned from the marketplace you wouldn’t have gotten the email that almost scammed you, right?

But he I’m just talking we all know nothing will ever change, why because SCR is like the Wild Wild West. There’s basically one law man and he’s always busy or drink, () idk!

Edit- self ban. Happy reefing. May your fish and coral live long and your GHA short.

If you guys see stuff like this send me a message or tag me. They have been banned so all the post is deleted once banned. But we can still see the delete post as it is hidden. If you need it for a charge back for your bank let me know.

Don’t send money to anyone you don’t know. That’s why you must check out their profile for real content and why we want to enforce real content and new members to contribute. I can’t monitor every scammer just spammers that post publicly. What you guys do in pm is beyond my control. Here is the offender removed. 0AE134E7-BED5-456E-8330-9146962B15F0.png

I don’t have much to say, because I’m new to the hobby.
Asking 400 for a 35g waterbox with stand or $500 obo for a brand new never used reefer 350 is hardly lining pockets.
Anyway, not my forum or rules. So I’ll abide.
Shady dude. You pretty much just posted a sale thread by mentioning it here.

Wow. That’s reaching. You told me to delete my ads. I did. Now you are accusing me of trying to sell HERE? Man relax. Actually, I’m out. Ban me. My short stay has already showed me what to expect here.

Don’t let them bully you. I suggest you engage with good content or contribute back to prove your worth? And Jose common man let’s be positive they need a chance to right their wrong. We a small group so everyone knows everyone. We appreciate you watching the community back.

You are really siding with him. Saying not to bully? He posted item, price and condition. How is that not a straight up advertisement to sell? Homeboy had already posted 2 for sale threads, was made aware of rules, then complained. He’s new to the hobby, but have a ton of equipment for cheap to sell. You are the quote on quote moral compass here, step up.

Absolutely, I’m not siding just observing, bullying is the wrong term, yes he did post price etc, but he also removed it after knowing about the rule probably unintentional vs intent. newbie mistakes. I gave him benefit without a doubt. If he really wanted it to work he would if not I can ban him per his request.

So doing the same error 3x gets you benefit of the doubt, but an active member gets you to shame them. Cool to see where priorities lie

I only see two post of the same double post there’s a history of what was posted. And he edited his post before I locked it. So that proves unintentional.
