I just wanted to share my pics of the 500g mixed reef tank at the Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Museum at the National Mall in Washington DC.

Someone on RC did a thread on this 3 years ago, since then the tank has matured now having fewer but much larger colonies.

You know you're a typical, spoiled southern california reefer when you're at the "official reef tank" of the United States of America and you say "yep I got that, and that, two of those, that too, sold that one, keeping that one at my buddy's house.....who can I talk to for a frag of that?!" LOL

The water shimmered from obvious metal halide lighting in this bowfront tank.

I was most impressed by the 2feet wide strawberry shortcake (A. microclados) colony, but im partial to SPS.

more SPS

obligatory giant clam (the size of a 28g nano tank)

Basketball-sized LPS

large yellow leather way up top near the water surface

Common fish

Thanks for sharing sir
I hope you and the family enjoy the east coast.
Thanks, it was fun and educational for everyone.

I also checked out a few other spots like the National Aquarium in the basement of the Department of Commerce building, the New York Aquarium and some LFS. All were just average by our high standards.

If you havent been to DC recently, they opened the World War II Memorial 9 months ago. Its by far the grandest war memorial at the National Mall.

A pillar for the Philippines nearly brought me to tears: my dad lost his oldest brother in the Great War, his father was captured and my dad himself got shot in the calf and almost bayonetted.
