Yup, always happens on vacation
Well my apex did not send me a text. I have never been all that enamored with apex and I'm not sure why I wasn't notified through it. The person babysitting my tank and dog called me on Saturday to tell me the lights were out Friday afternoon/evening ( why they did not call then, I can't answer) and never turned on Saturday morning. I then tried to connect via apex and couldn't. Used FaceTime to look at the apex brain and it was dark. On FaceTime , was able to see the circuit breaker and the two fuses marked "fish tank" were blown. I was able to instruct how to reset the breaker.
So,the tank was cold and oxygen starved after all those countless hours without electricity. Lost about four fish, borbonius that I had for a couple years, a flame wrasse, a male bipartus wrasse, and a potters angel. I had fragged my pink floyd and the Vinh a couple weeks earlier, the cut frags made it but not the mother colonies. I lost a small handful of random frags in the display as well. It could and should have been a total wipe out. I actually can't figure why it wasn't. So,all in all, I got lucky with just the few losses that I suffered. I was told there were a number of fish laying on the sand. I have something like 20 plus fish.
I was worried the dead coral and dead fish were going to cause an ammonia spike but the tank seemed to handle it. My calcium reactor is on a solenoid, so I am assuming it functioned as designed although my calcium reactor likes to dump all it's water with a power outage so I'm sure I had a temporary alk spike although when I retuned from vacation the alk was in range as well as the nitrates.
