Yes, it can definitely be done. The growth might be slower and the color take longer to show up but it definitely can be done. I have 4x24watt lighting and have various SPS pieces: various montis, various birdsnests, and a couple of other sticks that I don't know the names of.

Montoporas seem to be pretty forgiving IME so maybe start with one of those. Birdsnests are the same IMO. But just get something you like and think is pretty. Try it out and then adjust.

Yep, I have all t5s, too, & have some nice acros & other sps. Color & growth is better than when I used to run 2x 150w mh's with supplemental pc actinics.

One thing though, when I was talking about switching & asking people their opinions.... They told me it would be iffy with a 4 bulb fixture but that I should be good with a 6 bulb fixture. :)

I only have a 39 gallon tall so should it work? with a 4 bulb? tank is 12 1/2 wide 30 1/4 long 22 3/4 tall which comes out to 37 1/4 gallon.
Marineland Eclipse tank? I have the same dims...it'll work. I know you're WAY far away from me but if you're ever in Long Beach I'd be glad to show you my setup.

A piece that likes dirty water is Red planet. I think you'd like that one. I'm on my 3rd one. But it's rebounding.

Agree with the water parameters comment...but still very doable. Don't get me wrong, my tank isn't TOM material yet but my SPS are happy and getting happier.

And by consistent numbers they mean if today your alk is 8.4 then you need to stick that number.

Your tank finds a place where magnesium and calcium are at good levels say, 420 calcium and 1380 magnesium, and then alk will stick, as long as you test and adjust dosing if necessary.

Most people who don't have many stony corals can get away with kalk in their top off or just weekly water changes. Others must dose calcium, alkalinity and magnesium from 1-100 times per week, depending on the amount of coral load your tank has.

Does a poclipora, red cap, or a green tyree toadstool count as sps? cause all of those have extremly well growth patterns in my tank? Seriously everything does very well in my tank so should there be a problem? My other corals inculde, 2 different acans that seriously thrive and get bigger than most peoples ive seen, duncan, tyree meteor shower " somehow i got this to change from green to a purple ish color, 3 different kinds of frogspawn, 3 chalices, a micromusa, 2 feather dusters, war favia, 2 types of mushrooms, zoa/palys are miami vices, mowhawks, simpsons donuts, blue spearmint rihnos, bbeb, armour of gods, bluberry fields zoas, captain americas, watermelons zoas, and 3 others i cant think of the names, one other plating coral i cant remeber the name of, and a healthy mini colony of australian leptasrea, sorry if i miss spelled anything

Kalkwasser or lime water... It provides calcium and alkalinity but at if I remember correctly about 1/10th the strength of 2 part (Calcium and Alkalinity).

Yes your poccipora and monti caps are SPS, a toadstool is a softie. LPS are those like acans and brains with a fleshy top and a calcium carbonate skeleton underneath.
