Idk what they say ”I don’t acclimate”. I never did b4 but I started seeing better results when I did acclimate to lighting. For instance I bought 5 corals from Steve the day I picked up mine and 6 other comp frags. I light acclimated those 5 frags I bought. The frags I light acclimated look way better then then the comp frag. I bought the frags to prove a point (and cause Steve has nice stuff at great prices).

I wanted to prove the my point that I just wanted to do right by the Specimens we keep to make sure that they’re happy and healthy. Tomorrow I’ll post pics of other frags I got to show the difference.

I’m just messing around. Figured I’d have some fun with the situation. It sucks for those who have to buy in again. But at least I’ll have a head start LMAO! :poop:

Guess I don’t really see the harm in people buying back in the first month, I wouldn’t like it if mine RTN that quick. not sure I would try again so soon so I gotta commend those that are willing to try!

Yeah eMac I think we owe you an apology since we didn’t back you up, but at the time we were all under the impression that the rules were the rules and per bob we were going to adhere to them. Bob was adamant that the rules were the rules but the contestants kept asking for changes and made it seem like a little flexibility wouldn’t be any harm (#of photos, acclimation period etc). In the end as titanwerx has said it became a slippery slope because one competitor received an exception and it would only be right if the graciousness would be extended to all and level the field for fairness (would have bit us in the ass and maybe ruined some friendships imo). For future competitions, we now know bob was right, however draconian 😉 he seemed at the time.

I see the point your making and to be honest I give a rats *** about the second chance. But what is total effin bs is that when I ask to have an addendum made to the rule I got shot down with out a vote or any other say. So I say f*** it the rules are the rules. I didn’t make them but I have to play by them right.

But you all do the f*** you want cause we know the popularity contest wins anyway.

I do think that in future sps grow-outs there should not be a placement factor, specifically if we are using rulers to judge growth. That'll let everyone find the sweet spot for the individual piece, something we would all do if just buying the frag. If there were to be an acclimation period stated in the rules, that should probably align with the re-buy timeframe between 2-4 weeks.

For now it looks like the majority wants people to buy back in. For me I just want to see who's systems producing the best growth and see what they feel set them apart.

Wow. Here, let me change the subject. I’m probably the least popular in the contest, but I’m going to win. LOL!

Yeah I totally feel you. The issue is that this is more of a loose alliance. There really isn’t an official moderator. When one member has a concern, their is no final authority Or person responsible to address the issue. I think everyone waits it out and see how the pieces fall. I’m sure we all cringe when an issue is not addressed and wait to see what the popular consensus is. No one wants to go against the grain. But you are right we all deserve to have our concerns addressed at least with a vote, but as mentioned before Bob stood his ground and still stands by his rules, it was us that opened the flood gates and now it’s somewhat of a mess. I guess its up to us to be brave and Step up and take care of our own. We’re learning lots of lessons here for sure. Next competition is going to be much better for sure, but for now hope you understand that it wasn’t disrespect or malice towards you, the original intention was to stick with the rules, but somewhere things started to slide down the slope.

How do you guys determine a winner? Is it by measurement or by weight?

I know that is why I'm just suggesting an alternative way that can be fair to all contestants.

Everything is as fair as it can be as is. Skeleton density should not be significant. The general healthiest tank with appropriate parameters will grow the biggest coral. Unsure why this is being suggested

I think should be by weight since most of the time coral encrusted first before grow up/out. So by weight should let you know whether the coral grew or not.
What do you guys think?

Weight would get tricky. Encrustment is not going to add to weight as much as branching skeletal growth. It would be hard to remove the encrustment only from the rock also.
