Stomatella snails are the bizz! They eat the crap out of algae and they readily reproduce in aquaria. Though I've never seen them for sale. Right now I have a ~25 gallon tank that doesn't have a bit of algae in it and I've never added a snail. When I turn the lights out dozens of 1 to 2 cm stomatellas come out and feast.
I can understand if they are not sold in store because they are hard to catch in the wild or something, but I'm surprised they aren't bread or sold anywhere. If you can get a few to start a colony, I'd highly suggest it!
