... so every piece of submersible equipment that I have ever tested emits a small amount of stray voltage. At what point does it become a problem and start negatively effecting livestock?

Also, what are your thoughts on grounding probes? Personally (and from a purely electrical standpoint) it seems like a bad idea to me, as voltage really isn't an issue, current is. And by introducing a grounding probe you are introducing full time current.

Thoughts?

Stray voltage is thought to be a major contributing factor to Head and Lateral Line Erosion in Acanthurids. I've always been of the school of thought that a grounding probe is a great idea. So yeah it can harm livestock. I'm not an electrician so I'll leave it at that.

Just put a titanium probe from MD and u will fix it.
What exactly will it "fix"? voltage from submersibles will still be there, but now there is 24/7 current. From my understanding only thing a probe protects is YOU from getting shocked because YOU are the ground if it's not there.

Let me rephrase the question: At what voltage/amperage does electricity become detrimental to marine life?

Im no electrician, but since fish are in the water they wont get shocked, because they are not grounded(think birds on a telephone wire), right?. Wouldn't the water around them always be the path of least resistance to them? Thats just my 2 cents, and i cant account for benthic creatures and corals.

Return pump: 1.8v
Skimmer: .9v
Evos: .9v
Heater: 2v

Total: ~6.3v
Hmmmm. I'm always using my phone so my search feature is as useful as Sanh at giving directions in English.

I made a thread on stray electricity 1.5 years ago in here maybe less. Are you testing from a known ground on the black side and then red into the tank water?

I found my stray juice by the old turn one off and measure, till I found the current. I believe mine was leaking 18v total. Old Koralia FTL.
