After setting up my tank a couple weeks ago I have discovered that I have two thermometers in my tank reading different temperaters. I have a viaaqua heater set at 75 and a corallife digital thermometer. They are both on opposite ends of the tank but the coralife digital thermometer consistantly reads about 2 degrees more than the reading on the heater.

I don't know which one to trust or if I should buy a new one that would be more accurate.

Also, if the coralife thermometer reads right I am thinking I will need to use some fans over the sump to help control the heat. I am thinking two clamp on fans but I am not sure. What do you guys use and where did you get it from?

Thanks for any and all help

hey Alex. i have the same issue w temp readings in my tank too. i just focus on the temp swing mainly. as long its not so drastic i think yore OK. i bought some really cool clip-on fans at rite-aid believe it or not. and they seem to work really well. about 10-15 bucks each. they're about and small-medium sized fan, hope this helps. good luck and post your results.

Do you have a fact shmancy controller? I have one and anytime my temp probe reads below 76 my heater turns on full blast until it hits 78. Then my controller shuts it off. Opposite for my chiller. If it goes over 78 it knocks it down to 76 ish.

I do not have a controller or a chiller. Depending on the weather each day (basically how hot the house gets) I have seen the temerature as high as 79.9 on the Coralife thermometer and 78 on the digital heater display. I am thinking about possibly buying one of the lowest levels of controllers but am not sure yet.

I am not even running my main lights yet (6x54w T5's) and I am getting the swing

Coralife is accurate plus minus 1-1.3 degrees Fahrenheit IME. A good tool. My "Schmancy" reads a Lil higher about 1 degree Fahrenheit (Apex).

I don't trust anything heater related. Cannot be calibrated.
