So I've had my new tank running for almost 2 months and had a pair of clown fish in my tank that were already paired for years from a friend. since I put them in they were always together but this past week the male would be on one side of the tank and female on the other. so yesterday I come home and can't find the male clown anywhere I think he jumped and my dog ate him he is no where to be found. I've read that they Typically don't jump unless provoked so I'm wondering if I should check for something wrong.
Temp 79
PH 8.2
Ammonia between 0 and .25 can't tell
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 40 ppm

Also would it be a good idea if I got another clown fish if the one I have has been paired for years to another
Thanks in advance

Fish are weird...my female perc clown literally jumped out of the water to bite my hand that was like 3 inches away...lucky for her, she landed on the acrylic rim of the tank and fell back in. and this morning like at 4am, my hogfish jumped out of the fuge its temporarily being held in and landed in the return section of my sump. scooped him up and put him back in his temp fuge home.

DEFINITELY get another clown asap. make sure it's a small clown tho. He may get beat up a bit at first, but everything should work out. :)
That's crazy about the jumping! I have never heard of clowns jumping. I have two OC clowns and they've been inseparable since the day I got them. What kind of clowns are they?

It's possible the clown died and your cleanup crew just finished it off fast. How big is the tank and what kind of crew do you have. More aggressive shrimp, crabs, or snails like nassarius could finish a clown pretty fast you would be surprised.

My female clown tends to jump when my hands are need the water. Super protective with her territory especially when I try cleaning the glass.

It's the darker orange one about 3" long.
