but have you ever seen an SPS tank where the monticaps didnt win? dont you HAVE TO trim those back because their growth rate is unmatched IME. I recall a few TOTM on reef central that religously excluded monticaps for this reason.
not to be rude or mean in anyway what so ever, but did you edit those pics in anyway? Like i said i am not trying to take away from the years of work you put into your tank, just want to see if you did or not. thank you.

Yes my monti caps don't win. And their growth is exponentially fast. My efflo right there next to them is also incredibly fast and maybe even faster than the green and orange cap. It also beats back the caps. I never trim my monti caps. For example, It's grown straight into the front of the glass. Looks awesome but hard to clean the algae around it. I only trim the expensive sps when they are about to touch. Right before this picture I fragged my Halloween milli because it was less than an 1/8" away from the efflo.
man i need to come out to you, buy some of those bad a** corals and take all the notes i can take down b4 you kick me out. also if you dont mind me asking what kind of lighting is that, and do you have anything for sale?
Lol. It's not too far from you. 40 mins. Be sure to check my website and pm me on here or email me. Some corals will need to be fragged and healed before they can be picked up www.socalcorals.com

Good to hear. Im sure acro beat back montis in nature because there have been many shots of huge confluent fields of acros, i.e. acros are often the main reef builders. Still in your first pic, and in most of my top downs, a few montis control a disproportionate amount of light.
I see those pictures then I look at my tank with a sad face..... Jaw Dropping with tears coming from my eyes. Someday wish I will have a reef tank like yours.
i loved looking down on my tank when it had thriving SPS colonies fighting for space... it's crazy how the corals you think will win, sometimes lose the battle...
