The skimmer take about a week to totally break in and we are on Day 5 right now. Here are some skimmate shots. Not much has changed in the last couple of days, just more in the collection cup. Once it's broken in, I'll clean the cup and see what it does. Also, keep in mind that the bioload in my 400 gallon system is pretty low. There are only about 15 small to medium sized fish.

I cleaned out the cup yesterday after the break-in period. Will have more progress pix up as they are ready. Also, once I received the new high output 9000's, I am planning on switching out one at a time to see what difference it would make. At this point, the regular 9000's are supposed to be pulling in ~500-600 LPH (I would need to get a flow meter to double check) for a total of ~1,000-1,200 LPH. The HO 9000's are reported to pull at ~1,000 LPH each. The plan is to compare the skimmer running at the current ~1,000-1,200 LPH, ~1,500-1,600 LPH (with one regular and one HO 9000), and ~2,000 LPH (both HO 9000's). Sounds like a lot of fun

Thanks T. But you gotta realize, you had ASMs!!! All kidding aside, you need to have all the right parts to make something work well. I was never a big fan of the Sedra pumps either, until now. I was looking at the same skimmer with the dual Eheims. But the additional cost just didn't justify it. Now I am glad I went with the Sedras. The new HO 9000 should easily outperform the Eheims. And WM has great warranties on the impellars to boot.
Some pix from today. I switched out one of the pumps for the HO version and boy, what a difference it made. I forgot to open up the gate valve and it overflowed almost immediately. I can't believe the amount of bubbles the HO pump generates.

You know Richard, I love to look at the skimmer so much that I really haven't paid much attention to the tank at all All kidding aside, the water does look clearer since the skimmer was put in. Everything still as healthy as can be but still dealing with the slight color loss. The temp drop in the last few days helped. The tank is running at 77 right now. But it's heating up again soon =(
