I really like the idea of the recirculating pellet reactor. Your able to control water flow through the reactor.Downside to pellets is you have to run po4 remover also

riverview great pictures!

Anyone just throw gfo in with the bio pellets? I know you would have to replace the gfo before the pellets...but I just thought I'd ask.
.
in the same reactor? I would think the pellets would crush the gfo to powder if in the same reactor. I've read that you should still run gfo in a separate reactor along with pellets but its just what ive read, no experience with pellets.

Hmmm...never thought about gfo getting crushed...thank goodness I asked huh? Yeah I READ that you should still run gfo with pellets, just not the separate reactor part...hence my question.

Gfo needs a small stir almost a poach if you will. While pellets occupy a rolling boil. Gfo gets exhausted and pellets get sheared of their bacteria.

Can't be run together successfully.

Well it's online now. I was able to get some pellets that have been running in a system for a few months. I added a few new pellets and let her rip. This thing tumbles like crazy. Wish I knew how to upload video. So i'm off to the races

So the bp have been running for a week now and no ill effects. Curious Estaban how long did it take for you to start seeing your corals going south?

2 week mark I started seeing slow tissue necrosis from the sides and bases. First to go were the wild pieces. Look for burn on tips. Or maybe you get lucky and it works out like I hope it does. Still don't see any benefits from BP that vodka can't do. My vodka is on a doser for the past 3 months no issues.

The entire tale of 0 & 0 is bull crap. Corals in the wild are around some nitrate and phosphate or else they starve. Feed people, or in the words of "Jesse coral finder Soto" "I over feed and over skim I call it over reacting." Or something like that.

That is where I'm at, and the balance works. Feed heavy, skim well and add plenty of phosphate remover for the extra goodness. My goal is to have my corals grow large enough to take the skimmer completely off line.

2 weeks down and no major ill effects. I added a half cup of pellets last night and will wait another 2 weeks before I add anymore. I did notice that I started to grow some gha and cyano in my sump and a little gha on one of my return flow accelerator. It wasn't much so I decided to just wait and see what happened. After a few days the cyano is gone now and the gha is just a tiny spot. I will remove it manually later today when I clean the inside of the acrylic. So really nothing major to report but in reality that's a good thing. If I can slowly get the pellets to start working I can a kid a plate of coral. Oh yeah I have also noticed the skim from the Skimmer is much much darker and smells way worse and seems thicker and nastier.

Great to hear! What are your nitrates at?
Nitrates are still high but falling. They are around 30 and looking like they are inching toward 20. This is good though they were north of 40 before. I just measured this morning. I'm also going to do 40gal wc today.
