So do you make your RO water and store it in a trash container. What kind of trash container and do you need to scrub it out before use to avoid any surface contaminants. I don't want to end up making 50 to 100 gallons of water and then let some residue in the container mess it up

I just bought one of those blue bins and will get another some time soon. Up until now I've been using a grey brute 20g trash can that I'll continue to use. I sprayed it down with vinegar and let it sit for a bit. Then I brushed it with a cleaning brush while I rinsed it out thoroughly. Haven't had a problem with it yet...and currently it's my holding tank for my fish until the new tank is setup. They've been in there for over 2 weeks with no ill effect noticeable.

Almost all plastic items leach phosphates. I would use a food grade white bin before the current 60 gallon acrylic tank I now use. Well that food grade bin would turn 0 phosphate water into .02 pO4.

I tested the current one and as long as I clean it thoroughly once a year I'm good. They all accumulate a film so it's good to give it a cleaning every now and then.

65 gallon clear mixing vats left for TMP salt, right for RODI (doubles as ATO container- has 3 tunze top off pumps inside). i purchased online, delivered (a place off the 60fwy sells these as well). Ive used brute trash cans, sealed top blue barrels, but its helpful to see the level at a glance how much you have- ive been caught off guard before not having salt water for an acclimation or the top off being dry.

to finish the answer: the RODI container strictly gets no chemicals (not even buffer or alk) so it stays clean. the salt mix vat does build up brown crap on the walls but it always test free of PO4. ive poured some of the big vinegar jugs from costco through it and reused the acetic acid to clean powerheads, but residue has never been a problem.
