ok so i was thinking of changing salts. i want to go from red sea coral pro to tropical marin pro reef salt mix. The reason why i want to do that is because i believe with this salt mix ( Tropical Marin) i will be able to setup my dosing unit. With red sea coral pro the only thing i need to touch on every day is my KH, Mag and Cal dont drop till 3 weeks after the water change. So i believe if i use a salt mix not as high leaves as red sea coral pro i can set up my dosing unit. Also i dont come home every night, and that way all my params will stay in line. But wanted to see what you guys/girls think b4 i do a change, and if i do due a change how should i go about it. Thank you

Just make sure if you change salt to have some let over so you can mix 75%old salt to 25% new then do that for a water change or two, then bump it up to 50% old 50% new then ect so your system doesn't go into shock from the sudden change just my 2 cents.

yeah thats how i planed on going about this whole deal. 20 gal water change every two weeks, but do you think me going from red sea to tropical will allow more of a drop in my mag to where ill be able to setup my dosing unit?

TMP is for calcium reactor users. You're wasting alk juice trying to keeping up with TMP
i did not know that. so what salt mix would you say is more dosing unit friendly? because red sea doesnt drop cal and mag for like three weeks after the water change, and i need to setup my dosing unit so that when i am not home everythjing will be ok. or should i just setup my dosing unit with red sea coral pro, and if sho how should i go about it?

Use regular tropic marine. The alk is rated a touch higher. Do a couple searches here and on RC about the subject. Our resident brain RayRay wrote some good posts about TMP.

I personally don't see anything wrong with keeping the salt you have. Remember stability is the key of a colorful reef. The variables are what keep you from attaining reefing success.

Look at how Solitude Mike achieves success. He had the same ATI fixture for a few years. Used instant ocean. Used a Drews Dosing pump for alk and calcium and manually did magnesium. He had a large bioload and a over sized efficient skimmer and a decent macro area and of course the biopelllets that still bothers me. And I think his most beneficial reding skill is patience in quarantine.

In end he never switched up just because. That's why his reef is grown out and why I introduce variables and struggle.

I mix half Red Sea Pro and half Red Sea regular. I get close to 10 dkh. Cal comes in at 350ish and Mag at 1200. I throw in a little Cal and Mag to get to 400ppm and 1320 ppm. Good to go.

i spent a good deal on corals, just like everyone else. so when it comes to the salt mix i never cut corners or not use something cuz of its price. i just want to get something thats good, and something where i can setup my dosing unit. i put in alot of time and effort to get some coral in my sps. I dont want to loss all the ground i have covered.

also i looked for rayray post on Tropical marin but wasnt about to find it. you think you can send me the link? thank you
