I've been having some coral troubles and have been looking at a bunch of would-be causes, most of them pointing to water quality, so I'm trying to get my hands on a few more test kits to keep ruling out reasons.

What does everyone test for regularly to keep your tank healthy? How often do you test?

I test Cal, Alk, Mag every 3 days and nitrate and phosphate once a week. Maybe your water could be too clean and not enough bacteria?

That's a great way to live. If you don't know what is going on then it won't concern you. I like that.:drum:
i only test salinity... and temp... LOL... if something dies, i will either buy it again... if it dies again, i won't buy it again.. very simple...

so says the man with multiple std ;) j.k.
i just got my test last month... i hook up with a ton of strangers, so i get tested frequently... anonymous hookups are the best...

Depending on what you have in the tank you will want to monitor salinity, ph and calcium. Although the best way to maintain stable water parameters is by doing regular water changes.

Every week I make sure to test KH, Ca, and Mg. If those test are not the same or close to as the week prior I will test KH throughout that next week to ensure stability as it's the easiest test.

I test Iodine, Potassium, and Iron every 2 weeks and dose these up accordingly.

I strive for

~475Ca
1500 Mg
4 Meq/L KH

Do not care about nitrate/phosphate. Not a problem for me.
